SchemaWright, learning database design in a gamified way
You get a business scenario, you answer with DDL, and a battery of hidden tests runs your schema against a real Postgres. Practising queries is crowded; practising modelling is empty.

What it does
Answer a business scenario with DDL. Hidden tests run it under the surface, on a real Postgres. One exercise, soft deletes, the way you would meet it: read, answer, and find out what your design cannot hold. Every exercise starts as a business whose rules pull against each other. Here, Support, Finance and Growth each mean something different by delete. The tests read the names in the contract and nothing else. The types, keys, constraints and indexes around them are what is being assessed. The contract is checked before any test runs, so a missing column says so instead of failing somewhere in the middle. Plain DDL, in an editor that behaves like one. Two different schemas can both be…from schemawright.com

We've been hard at work for a few weeks and thought it's time for another update. In case you missed our first post, PostgresML is an end-to-end machine learning solution, running alongside your favorite database. This time we have more of a suite offering: project management, visibility into the datasets and the deployment pipeline decision making. Let us know what you think! DDL to Data – Generate realistic test data from SQL schemasJan 2026 · ddltodata.com · ▲55I built DDL to Data after repeatedly pushing back on "just use production data and mask it" requests. Teams needed populated databases for testing, but pulling prod meant security reviews, PII scrubbing, and DevOps tickets. Hand-written seed scripts were the alternative slow, fragile, and out of sync the moment schemas changed. Paste your CREATE TABLE statements, get realistic test data back. It parses your schema, preserves foreign key relationships, and generates data that looks real, emails look like emails, timestamps are reasonable, uniqueness constraints are honored. No setup, no…

Hi HN, I'm Dean, the non-technical co-founder of SchemafreeSQL. We released our beta version about a year ago. You can see the HN Post here https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30291592 Today I am pleased to announce our initial release of our hosted SFSQL offering. A major concern from the HN Beta feedback we received was our longevity. Being a hosted database solution I can see why. We took that to heart and re-engineered our offering. We de-risked it by minimizing the amount of infrastructure under our management, fly.io manages customer's dedicated SFSQL endpoints,…
DeepSQL – A self-hostable DBA agent for Postgres and MySQLJul 2026 · deepsql.ai · ▲52Hi HN - I'm Venkat, founder of Stayflexi (YC), CMU CS grad and Ex-Oracle Query Engine team (patents in core databases) DeepSQL started as an internal tool to stop our own databases from becoming the bottleneck they were becoming (13,000+ hotels in production). It worked well enough that we're releasing it. DeepSQL is an AI agent that operates a database the way a senior DBA and Data Engineer would 1. Fixes slow queries (we cutdown DB spend by 4x) 2. Fixes DB bloat (blocks unnecessary schema changes, in vibecoded setup) 2. BI dashboards(we removed spend on tableau, retool and appsmith) 3.…

Talanoa▲337Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
