Sprigman – Pac-Man Recreated in a Limited Tile Based JavaScript Engine

Sprig is a tile based game engine made by Hack Club that's like Scratch's older brother but has it's own set of unique limitations. All sprites need to be made in Bitmap and uses a midi like event sequencer to get any music into it, since it's meant for a different set of hardware, you can only use very basic controls too. I made a version of PacMan inside it that has randomly generated mazes every time and mostly works well!

Sprigman – Pac-Man Recreated in a Limited Tile Based JavaScript Engine launched on May 7, 2025 with 20 votes, #831 of 7,905 launches that month and more than 90% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

In plain words

Sprigman is a Pac-Man game built in Sprig, a tile-based JavaScript game engine created by Hack Club. The game features randomly generated mazes that change with each playthrough and runs within Sprig's constraints, which limit sprites to bitmap graphics, basic controls, and MIDI-style music sequencing. It demonstrates what's possible when developing for a deliberately limited hardware-focused platform.

The best way to learn is by making things that you care about and sharing them with other people. Check out games created by Hack Clubbers.

Sprig is a tiny construction kit to build tile based games. The games are written in JavaScript. It was made by Hack Club, a global community of teen coders who believe people learn best by making things they care about and sharing them with others. You can watch this video for an introduction to Sprig website. Run games by hitting the Run button or pressing Shift+Enter . If this is your first time using Sprig, try playing through the tutorial . From there, we suggest hacking on any of the current games or starting from scratch. If you ever need help, have ideas, or want to meet other game-makers, join the community in the #sprig channel on the Hack Club Slack . You can access this guide…from sprig.hackclub.com

I got laid off from Meta and created a minor hit on Steam2025 · ▲1,581

I was at FB/Meta from late 2013 to early 2023, mostly working in the compiler/runtime spaces. I got hit in the spring 2023 layoff wave. I immediately started making games in my newfound free time (a lifelong interest, and I even worked in AA(A?) back ca. ~2000), and in October 2023 I stumbled upon the idea of a roguelike pachinko/plinko game inspired by Luck Be A Landlord. Things snowballed quickly, I started talking to publishers, then worked like crazy through all of 2024, almost the hardest I've ever worked in my career, and launched the game in December 2024. It's sold…

    I made a web game called Almost Pong2022 · lessmilk.com · ▲1,135

Hi HN! I made many small web games in the past with Unity or Phaser. But this time I wanted to make something completely on my own. So I coded a basic game framework in plain JavaScript, and used it to make Almost Pong. This was a really fun project that taught me a lot about JavaScript, and I plan to make more minimalist games with this framework. Interesting fact: Almost Pong doesn't load any assets, all sprites and sounds are generated with code. Happy to answer questions, and please let me know if you have any feedback on the game. Thanks!

GitHub repo: https://github.com/ArcadeMakerSources/ArcadeMaker (first of all, i want to say that I made this project for fun and challenge. I always wanted to create my own language. This has no business goal or something.) So the project is a 2D game engine (MonoGame backend) inspired by GameMaker 8. It includes its own IDE (built with WinForms) and an interpreted programming language that I wrote myself. The language—definitely the biggest challenge in the project—is a simple dynamically typed language. When I started, I had zero knowledge of how to build something like…

Upload a PDF, notes, or workshop deck, and Tapflow drafts a structured product (with chapters, teaser and pricing plans). It’s good for AI kits, onboarding guides, design systems, and frameworks. You can sell through Stripe, LemonSqueezy, or PayPal. Real-time collaboration is in early beta. No site builder, no LMS — clean design and just focused tools to ship.
