Startup Wishareit – Trying to solve the bad gifts issue

Hi HN! I'm quite new to HN so I'm sorry if I don't do a well built post (in terms of form) as you are probably used to. My name is João Romão, from Portugal, and I'm one of the co-founders of Wishareit, a place for collaborative gifting with your friends and family. Everybody loves gifts but sometimes finding a gift is a really hard task. And the consequence is painful: you get ugly clothes, bad books and.. cactuses. We reached out and discovered that 40% of all gifts in the US in 2011 were considered to be crap and that 83% of people had trouble when looking for a gift. That's a really…

  • I asked an HN member for feedback and she blew my mind2010 · slideshare.net · ▲453

A few days ago, I responded to a comment by bloggergirl offering to read anyone's web copy and help. I shot off an email hoping for a paragraph or two of feedback on my startup's copy. Instead I received a professional, detailed deck of tons of invaluable well thought out feedback. It must have taken her an entire afternoon. Here's a link to it: http://www.slideshare.net/shereefb/recommendations-for-bettermeans To top it off, this isn't someone with a lot of free time on her hands, she's only days away from launching her own startup (page99test) This community blows my mind!

    I created a site to help HN users give the perfect Christmas gift2022 · thealmostperfectgift.blogspot.com · ▲7

The idea of creating this site came to me when I was thinking of gifts to get family and friends for Christmas after a very exhausting work week. Getting Christmas gifts or gifts in general can be time consuming and mind draining if you are the type of person that likes to give thoughtful gifts and does not like to repeat gifts. I decided to compile data of key points like gender, age group, hobbies, favorite things, favorite sports etc of the person receiving the gift, so as to suggest several gifts the receiver is most likely to love. Since I wanted to share this with others that might…

    Soft-launch, first page on HN – here are the numbers2020 · ▲6

[1/2] Thursday evening (Mar 26) we made a soft launch for https://uidesigndaily.com (a UI website that I built for my wife) The goal was to get some feedback, fix bugs and get about 30-40 subscribers in the mailing list, to see how the newsletter performs. The launch went better than expected, and the feedback was generally positive. Below are some numbers for those interested. I posted it to 4 channels, IH, HN, Reddit and Twitter. It was best received on HN with 203 points, it made it in the top 10, and it stayed on the front page for a good while. Reddit also surprised me, I…

    Show HN and looking for designer for a kids-friendly project2013 · ▲5

I think my design is kind of awful, that's why I've been always looking for a designer (co-founder). If you're interested in what I'm building, contact me at wanghq # kidsfriend.ly or leave your contact here. I'd also like to hear some suggestions. If you want to get some feedback for your projects, we can exchange our ideas. http://www.kidsfriend.ly

Excited to share something I've been building recently called CandySearch. I made it to solve a personal pain with a SaaS product I built, which was that we were always monitoring Reddit and Twitter to see if anyone had mentioned keywords indicating they were looking for us. Before, we had to go manually respond to posts, often missing good mention opportunities. Would love for HN folks to try it and let me know what you think!
