The Universe in One Chart

This is an interactive version of the mass-vs-radius chart from Lineweaver & Patel's "All Objects and Some Questions" (2023). It plots the scale of everything in the observable universe on a single log-log chart This was an experiment in extending the utility of a science infographic via hyperlinks, navigability and tooltips that detail the meaning of specific parts. There are likely still spatial/numerical issues, happy to take corrections. The original paper: https://pubs.aip.org/aapt/ajp/article/91/10/819/2911822/All-...

What it does

Based on Lineweaver & Patel , Am. J. Phys. 91, 819–825 (2023). Licensed CC BY 4.0. This page charts the full range of objects in the universe, plotted by their mass vs physical radius — spanning over 60 orders of magnitude in size and 90 in mass. Two fundamental limits define the forbidden regions: general relativity's Schwarzschild radius (the size at and below which an object becomes a black hole) and quantum mechanics' Compton wavelength (the smallest scale at which a particle can be localized). At their intersection sits the Planck-mass instanton , the smallest possible object. Dashed diagonal lines trace isodensity contours through cosmic history, from the Planck epoch…from saminloes.com

Hello HN! Sharing a recent side project of mine, the Atlas of Space, that I built out to explore the Solar System. As a long-time space nerd, I realized recently that I didn't have a good intuition on the scale, speed, and relative orientation of the celestial bodies around us. So over the break I built out a kind of spatial Wikipedia to click around and learn about planets, moons, asteroids, and other bodies orbiting the Sun. The physics is all simulated in the browser using simple Newtonian mechanics. There's a lot left to do from here, including modeling objects in non-Keplerian orbits…

Hey HN! We are Jonathan & Guy, and we are happy to share a project we’ve been working on. ChartDB is a tool to help developers and data analysts quickly visualize database schemas by generating ER diagrams with just one query. A unique feature of our product is AI-Powered export for easy migration. You can give it a try at https://chartdb.io and find the source code on GitHub. Next steps ---> More AI. We’d love feedback :)

I've been iterating on a small galaxy visualization project that originally started as a university course assignment, using only provided sample data (no real astronomical distances). Recently, I updated it to include redshift-based distance data, which makes the 3D structure more meaningful and closer to real large-scale galaxy distributions. Repo: https://github.com/Avicted/galaxy_visualization_raylib Demo video (3D navigation + galaxy structures): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC83RDWuPvw Current state: - Written in C (C99 standard) using Raylib -…

  • With social media and now AI, its important to keep the indie web alive. There are many people who write frequently. Blogosphere tries to highlight them by fetching the recent posts from personal blogs across many categories. There are two versions: Minimal (HN-inspired, fast, static): https://text.blogosphere.app/ Non-minimal: https://blogosphere.app/ If you don't find your blog (or your favorite ones), please add them. I will review and approve it.
