Thunder Compute (YC S24)

Self-host AI/ML with the world's cheapest GPU cloud

Thunder Compute (YC S24) launched on February 25, 2025 with 116 votes, #346 of 5,999 launches that month and more than 95% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

What it does

Get your hands dirty with the same GPUs powering OpenAI, virtualized to save 40% beyond even the cheapest budget options.

Thunder Compute makes GPUs abundant with GPU virtualization research, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise partnerships that unlock more data center capacity.

Every scarce resource in computing becomes abundant. CPUs, storage, networking, and memory all made this transition, GPUs have not. For GPUs, abundance will come not only from building more chips, but from using software to make better use of the chips already deployed. Today, GPUs remain underutilized. The best solutions sit at the workload layer, batching inference requests or queueing training jobs across fleets of servers. Meanwhile, the systems layer remains largely untouched. Virtualization is now universal for CPUs, storage, networking, and memory, but does not yet exist for GPUs. Thunder Compute exists to fill this gap. We are a systems lab with commercial focus, productionizing…from thundercompute.com

    TensorDock Core GPU Cloud – GPU servers from $0.29/hr2022 · tensordock.com · ▲147

Hello HN! I’m Jonathan from TensorDock. After 7 months in beta, we’re finally launching Core Cloud, our platform to deploy GPU virtual machines in as little as 45 seconds! https://www.tensordock.com/product-core Why? Training machine learning workloads at large clouds can be extremely expensive. This left us wondering, “how did cloud ever become more expensive than on-prem?” I’ve seen too many ML startups buy their own hardware. Cheaper dedicated servers with NVIDIA GPUs are not too hard to find, but they lack the functionality and scalability of the big clouds. We thought to…

Greetings HN! This is Doruk from Oblivus, and I'm excited to announce the launch of our platform, Oblivus Cloud. After more than a year of beta testing, we're excited to offer you a platform where you can deploy affordable and scalable GPU virtual machines in as little as 30 seconds! https://oblivus.com/cloud - What sets Oblivus Cloud apart? At the start of our journey, we had two primary goals in mind: to democratize High-Performance Computing and make it as straightforward as possible. We understand that maintaining GPU servers through major cloud service providers can be…

I was at FB/Meta from late 2013 to early 2023, mostly working in the compiler/runtime spaces. I got hit in the spring 2023 layoff wave. I immediately started making games in my newfound free time (a lifelong interest, and I even worked in AA(A?) back ca. ~2000), and in October 2023 I stumbled upon the idea of a roguelike pachinko/plinko game inspired by Luck Be A Landlord. Things snowballed quickly, I started talking to publishers, then worked like crazy through all of 2024, almost the hardest I've ever worked in my career, and launched the game in December 2024. It's sold…

  • i wanted to change the habit of reaching for my phone in the morning and doomscrolling away an hour so i built an app to help me. now i have to literally touch grass before accessing my most distracting apps the app is built in swiftui, uses the screen time apis provided by apple and google vision to recognise grass or not i'd love to get your thoughts on the concept.
