TIF Studio: Visual Coding for Kids

Drag-and-drop coding for kids, connected to real hardware.

What it does

TIF Studio helps kids (Grade 3+) learn real programming logic through colorful drag-and-drop blocks. Unlike screen-only apps, we bridge the gap to the physical world! Students can connect their visual code to real hardware like Arduino Uno, ESP32, and Nano to control LEDs, sensors, and motors. Partnered with Robocraze for genuine, beginner-friendly hardware kits, TIF Studio is the complete STEM ecosystem for young innovators to build, play, and think like programmers.

    This app is a graphical programming environment for kids to learn coding by creating animations. Although we released it to the app store it's still more of a beta version and we would love to solicit feedback from HNers with iPads. To me, programming is something that kids could really enjoy but the obstacles in their way (getting a programming environment, publishing their code, learning syntax) make the barriers to entry unnecessarily high.   • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes&#x2F;sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
