Turning my 10y old tablet into digital photo frame

In plain words

This is a digital photo frame created from a 10-year-old Android tablet running version 4.4.4. The frame displays photos from a shared Google Photos album, automatically rotating through images every hour. It repurposes outdated hardware into a functional display device for home use, suitable for anyone with an old tablet gathering dust who wants to showcase their photo collection.

From the sources

Last weekend, I built a digital photo frame, from my a-decade-old tablet. It cycles through photos from a shared Google Photos album, switching up the display every hour.

This is version 2 of my ongoing heirloom device project, a digital photo frame built with the goal of lasting longer than your typical gadget. There's a part of me that wishes to commercialize a polished version of this product, but the more I speak to people, the more I become convinced that I belong to a very small minority.

I created an After Effects alternative▲1,150

Many years ago, I made VJ softwares (to mix live visuals in clubs) for unexpected platforms like the Game Boy Advance, the Playstation 2 and the Raspberry Pi. This year, I’m back with a new web-app: Pikimov. Inspired by Photopea (a free Photoshop clone), I created this web-based motion design & video editor as an alternative to After Effects, to fill empty void. It's free, without signup, without cloud uploads (your files stay on your machine), and your projects are not used for AI models training.
