In plain words
WebGCM is a fully functional global climate model that runs directly in web browsers using WebGPU graphics processing. It simulates atmospheric layers, ocean currents, clouds, ice, and weather patterns across a detailed representation of Earth's continents and terrain. Users can visualize different climate variables like wind, temperature, and precipitation in real time, track wind patterns with particles, view the planet from space, and save images of their observations. The simulation requires a modern browser with WebGPU support.

From the sources
A global climate model running live: a hydrostatic atmosphere with 27 levels on a geodesic C-grid, moist convection and clouds, a wind-driven two-layer ocean, sea ice, snow and soil on real continents with terrain. Every kernel runs on the graphics card through WebGPU. It picks up from a six-year spin-up at 64 subdivisions, about 41,000 cells 110 km across, where you can colour the globe by wind, temperature, pressure, rain, clouds, ice or ocean currents, follow the wind with particles, watch the planet from space, and save snapshots. Best in a browser with WebGPU (Chrome, Edge or Safari 26). Without it the model falls back to a slower CPU engine. The starting state is a 50 MB download.…from gcm.echorelay.net

ChartGPU – WebGPU-powered charting library (1M points at 60fps)Jan 2026 · github.com · ▲670Creator here. I built ChartGPU because I kept hitting the same wall: charting libraries that claim to be "fast" but choke past 100K data points. The core insight: Canvas2D is fundamentally CPU-bound. Even WebGL chart libraries still do most computation on the CPU. So I moved everything to the GPU via WebGPU: - LTTB downsampling runs as a compute shader - Hit-testing for tooltips/hover is GPU-accelerated - Rendering uses instanced draws (one draw call per series) The result: 1M points at 60fps with smooth zoom/pan. Live demo:…
Free e-book about WebGPU Programming2024 · shi-yan.github.io · ▲471I am excited to announce the launch of my e-book on Graphics/WebGPU programming! This project has consumed much of my spare time, during which I developed various tools to facilitate the publishing process, including a code playground and a static site generator that can reference sample codes. However, I'm feeling burnt out and ready to call it finished, even though it may not feel completely done. Avoiding another abandoned side project has been my primary motivation in reaching this point.

I made a web app to generate 3D models of real places on earth from land cover and elevation data. Click anywhere on the map to get a polygon, and then click "generate". It should work at most scales, but if your watershed or region selection is too large, the result can be less exciting because it's so flat. As a warning, the 3D models can sometimes be too much for my phone. It's nicer on desktop. I'm still working better on mobile support. The land cover data I'm using gives a cool effect, but at some point I'd like to add in global imagery and clouds. The backend is a Python thread…
