Fulfilled▲40Five months ago I launched our alpha product here and got roasted for basic math errors on our landing page. It was an early lesson for us in putting something out there and not meeting that moment and just being unprepared. But here's what we've learned building a wealth management platform for the 95% of people who don't have $100K minimums: Take Sarah (real user, fake name): 32, $85K income, $47K across three accounts. Traditional advisor wants $100K minimum. Betterment would put her in one of 5 risk buckets. Fulfilled modeled her actual goals: House down payment in 4 years in MCOL area:…

It’s pretty simple: ask us absolutely anything about your finances (it’s okay to be really specific to your situation!) and our algorithm backed by a Certified Financial Planner will give you a hyper-personalized spot-on answer, for free. Go ahead and stump us! Let’s really kick the tires on this thing :) Up until now, we've been doing comprehensive financial advising for free. Our most popular feature is the ability to just ask us anything so we figured why not make that feature available for everyone? Also for free :) Some more context: Uprise’s mission is to make wealth…

I built this as a personal finance app that allows me to see how my recurring incomes and expenses will affect my network over the years. So trackm can show up to 4 years in the future and track when your accounts will go negative given you expenses and incomes. I've been dogfooding it for the past 10 days, fixing issues I find from my day-to-day use and now it's at a point where I'm comfortable sharing it with others. The app is free for 30 days, after which it goes into read-only mode. Paying the one-time license fee unlocks it forever.

Hi everyone, I'd like to share FinWise (https://finwiseapp.io) with you, which my wife and I have been building over the last few months. FinWise is an all-in-one personal finance management tool, including budgeting, net-worth tracking, financial planning & forecasting and a couple of other things which we're still busy working on like couples/family budgeting and being able to set and track goals. It's designed to make managing all your personal finances as simple, easy and painless as possible, and we've put a lot of effort into making the website as simple and intuitive,…

Quantive▲5I started tracking my net worth when I started working in 2019 and I used a spreadsheet for that. But, having accounts in multiple currencies and updating it every month got old. I wanted to look at the numbers on my phone in a queue, but ended up rebuilding formulas at my laptop every month. Also, I didn't want to hand my bank logins to a third-party aggregator to get there. So I built the tool I've always wanted: without bank connections, syncing the same dashboard on every device, and making sure the data was encrypted in my browser so the server can't read it. You submit your balances or…

Hi HN, I built AffordWhere to answer a question I kept running into: “If I earn X, where can I actually afford to live comfortably?” The site lets you compare cities based on income, rent, taxes, and day-to-day costs, and see how far a salary realistically goes in each place. It’s intentionally simple: Focused on affordability rather than averages Designed for relocation and remote-work decisions No account required I’d appreciate feedback on: Whether the affordability framing is useful Missing cost factors you’d expect Data accuracy or methodology concerns Link:…

Hey HN! I built a small app for comparing companies or job offers based on "years until financial independence" instead of "total compensation", after finding out the same offer from 2 companies can have a difference of years in terms of FIRE. I also ranked companies based on the time to FIRE as well. (with some assumptions, see the methodology for more details here https://firelist.io/methodology). It was useful for me, hopefully it's useful to you! I'll be adding more benefits and companies over the next few days or so. Let me know if you have any requests.

Burned about 1 weeks on this. Not sure if it's useful to anyone beyond my original use case, but figure I'd share. Friend went through a nasty divorce. Had $750k going into the marriage (inheritance), put it in a joint account like an idiot. Five years later, account's been up and down, money mixed with paychecks and mortgage payments. Lawyer says "you need a forensic accountant to trace what's still yours." Quote comes back: $5k, 4 weeks minimum. I'm sitting there thinking - this is just transaction categorization and some relatively simple math (the "Lowest Intermediate Balance Rule" if…

Status Money is a new personal finance management (PFM) website that lets you anonymously compare your finances to millions of people. We've been working on it for over a year and would love your thoughts and feedback! Check it out at: https://statusmoney.com How it works: Status aggregates your financial accounts, syncs with your TransUnion credit file, and shows you how your spending, income, assets, debts, net worth, and credit score compare with people like you – these are people your age that live in your city and have an income, credit score, and housing situation that is…

It's at http://finkin.com. The goal is to allow a developer to sign up in seconds, and within minutes begin querying data. It runs under https and stores no access information. From http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1431583, I realized that all those types of sites are not tailored to developers like the other simple APIs around the web are (i.e. flickr). I made mine as simple as I thought possible. From http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1676458, I realized that eventually it should be a scalable model where you pay pennies per the # of requests you make. Right now it supports many…
