Hi HN! I built a map that shows cell coverage from the major US networks. It draws primarily on data from the FCC, but that's supplemented/calibrated with a bunch of crowdsourced data from the DIMO project (dimo.zone). My goal is to make comparisons between networks super easy--one click to toggle between networks or technologies. I'm never sure how much to trust networks' self-published maps. Simulate anything on a map from a text prompt -- and conduct risk analysis against LiveUA map's global realtime data points from social media and news sources. I trained a GPT-2-size model on historical incident data used to predict things that will go wrong. Over the past week I built a project to let people self-host an entire maps stack so they don't have to send data to the big G. Right now it includes a base map, geocoder and directions server. Currently only bicycle directions are supported, and I'm only hosting tiles for Seattle because I'm unemployed and can't afford to host data for the whole planet. Hey HN! I love finding new books to read on here. I wanted to gather the most mentioned books and recreate the serendipity of physical browsing. I scraped 20k comments from HN threads related to reading, extracted the references and opinions using GPT-4o mini, and visualised their embeddings as a map. - OpenAI's embeddings were processed using UMAP and HDBSCAN. Hey Everybody! Hope you had a merry christmas Today I had a bit of fun with Claude. Started by scraping YC's startups list, then ran them through OpenAI's embedding service, then UMAP'd the embedding to reduce the dimension to just two coordinates and then just forced Claude to write React that would compile to visualize that. I had fun and I think it's interesting, so take a look! Also note that you won't be able to zoom on mobile (found about this Plotly limitation way too late). I'm launching Wirewiki.com today! Wirewiki makes the internet’s hidden infrastructure browsable. I quit my job 5 years ago to scale Nslookup.io. But after reaching 600k monthly users, I hit a ceiling. I couldn't naturally expand beyond DNS because of the domain name. So I went back to the drawing board: how would I make it today? Technologies used: Leaflet (frontend) Turf (Geojson generation and Voronoi generation) I noticed that my neighborhood is all Lawsons, so I got the location of all Conbinis and ran some basic analysis to see if these pockets of brand territory are common. I haven't worked much with web frontends before, so feedback is welcomed. When I read papers, I have to jump between multiple tabs to find the dataset, code, videos, peer reviews, and so on. I tried to fix this with this project. It started as a project just for papers on arXiv, but after its initial success on Twitter (got like 1.9k views: the most I have gotten for a post), I have now expanded it to include other openly available papers from PubMed Central, bioRxiv, medRxiv, and eLife. They have an official map but the UI is quite dated, often lags, and doesn't show the full route context.
