Products that do what Interactive map of the convenience store "turf war" in Japan does

Technologies used: Leaflet (frontend) Turf (Geojson generation and Voronoi generation) I noticed that my neighborhood is all Lawsons, so I got the location of all Conbinis and ran some basic analysis to see if these pockets of brand territory are common. I haven't worked much with web frontends before, so feedback is welcomed. I also have some ideas to maybe expand upon, like making the territory calculations based on streets and other geographical features rather than just beeline distance. The site isn't tested too much on mobile yet, but should be ok. Currently the frontend code and…

I find myself often texting people, "where are you?" so I wrote this little iPhone app that lets me text them a special link. When they click the link, it uses the HTML5 geolocation API to report their location and shows it on a map. http://whru.at/ It's only as accurate as the HTML5 geolocation API, but I've been finding it pretty useful. What do you think?

For a game I'm developing I needed an easy way to create hotspot areas on images. So I hacked together a small tool to do so and before I knew it, I had created an entire app :-) It allows you to generate JSON or YAML from the coordinates you tack on the image. tack runs entirely in your browser, there is no server side component to it, so good in terms of privacy. Hope this is helpful.

I recently developed a JavaScript library that determines what San Francisco neighborhoods and/or districts someone is in. The application is served from Google App Engine so if no one is using the application the server instances are shut down and your first couple queries might be slow. But after a couple instances are spun up it performs quite well. The example application is just an example so it's not very sophisticated or pretty to look at. For the example to work properly it must run on a device that supports the HTML5 geo location API such as an iPhone. If you get chance take a…

Hi, Out of desperation using slow and expensive ESRI ArcGIS, we're building a custom GIS engine to facilitate presentation layers for urban mapping that is easier to code and communicate with other smaller applications. The app we built was meant to help local people or investors perform preliminary due diligence using location-specific parameters (demographic profile, zoning regulation, business requirements, POIs, indexes, and potential calculator). With this app, we're helping people to assess which location is best to build their next business. We also managed to add machine learning…

Embeddable map widget for business websites. One script tag, no Google account, no cookies. OpenStreetMap tiles served as Protomaps PMTiles from Cloudflare R2. The whole serving layer runs on edge with no tile server. Infrastructure cost is ~€7/month regardless of traffic because R2 has no egress fees. Built it because Google Maps embeds in Europe are a GDPR headache (cookies, third-party domains, consent barriers), and they show your competitors on your own website.

I've recently been working with real-time geoJSON data at a rate of 50+ queries per second. SaaS solutions can be prohibitively expensive at this rate, thus, I created go-reverse-geo. Data is pulled from geonames.org and is stored in MongoDB (a requirement of my current project). It is very much a work-in-progress (I wrote it this morning). Hope someone finds it useful. https://paranoia.dev/vivi/go-reverse-geo

Originally begun as a sort of 'weekend' project, it has been a bit of a struggle, but finally I think we've brought it to a state where I can request reviews, feedback etc.: http://GetLocalNe.ws Please feel free to report bugs/problems or post feedback/suggestions on any aspect of it. Geolocation accuracy (or inaccuracy) reports will be highly appreciated. Quality of data is being rigorously assessed now, but the current data should be at least reasonably okay. Please let me know otherwise. Work on identifying and integrating XML/RSS feeds from news sources is on now and this will be…

Hi HN, I thought it would be fun to plot a traceroute on a map to visually see the path packets take. I know this idea has been done before, but I still wanted to scratch that itch. The first version just let you paste in a traceroute and it would plot the hops on a map. Later I discovered Globalping (https://globalping.io), which allows you to run traceroutes and MTRs from probes around the world, so I integrated that into the tool. From playing around with it, I noticed a few interesting things: • It's very easy to spot incorrect IP geolocation. If a hop shows 1–2 ms latency but…
