I strongly believe that every developer is a teacher and likewise. Every time you are asked to help someone else understand your code, you’ll always be grateful to be able to share your own knowledge with others. Explain Code App is the place you can make this happen! I am eager to hear your thoughts on what I have put together so far. Would love to hear your feedback! Let me know if there are any other features you would like for this site, I’m open for ideas and would love the community feedback. Here is the link: https://www.explaincode.app/

I have had a few conversations in the past year with non-technical folks (traditional finance types, consultants) who asked for a simple explainer on how GPTs work. These people generally have the horsepower to grasp new concepts quickly but don't necessarily have the math background to dig in super deeply and want a stronger framework than "they predict words". I had generally been pointing them to Karpathy, Illustrated Transformer, and other youtube content but I figured something more hands on without the math requirement might be better at explaining questions like "why matrix…

We recently started Learned By Me (www.learnedbyme.com), a company that connects terrific experienced Spanish professors and immersion school teachers from South America with students and learners from around the world for Skype tutoring sessions for $15 / 45 minute session. Your feedback would be much appreciated! We can discount your first lesson to $1 if anyone would like to give a lesson a try. (Just sign up on our site and use the code: HackerNews at checkout) Email Michael at learnedbyme dot com if you have any questions / comments that you would rather not share on HN. Thanks!

Hi All - I'm Eric, and I’ve been working on a math-tutoring application that continually adapts to a child’s learning needs as they answer questions: www.grokkoli.com/beta (introduces new concepts in granular steps, figures out where/how learners might be confused & attempts to resolve it, speeds kids past the stuff they understand clearly, tracks their recall, answer-speed, and more). Currently in beta, looking for families with kids in grades 1-6 to beta-test. Especially interested in taking on families that are finding math to be a challenge. Happy to share more details if…

Hi everyone! We (Christopher and Govind) have started a video tutorial series of 20-25 minute long episodes on how to make various common computer science data structures, such as vectors, linked lists, hashmaps, and so on. So far, we’ve done a two-part series on how to implement vectors. Links to parts one and two of the Vectors series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr0KzD_Owxc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3kgbdhUIxU (Sorry about the low quality of the video in the first link, we accidentally recorded in 720p. The second part is in 1080p!) Although so far…

The idea: what if you could get a “Masterclass”-style experience, but free, using existing YouTube content? So I made OpenCademy — right now it only has two quick startup "courses" (101 & 102), built from curated YouTube clips, all embedded and organized into modules. It’s still early (no accounts, no backend), but it’s bingeable. Would love thoughts on whether this concept feels useful or just... redundant.

I’m 15 and self-taught. I'm learning ML from scratch because I want to really understand how things work. I’m not into frameworks. I prefer math, logic, and C++. I implemented a basic MLP that supports different activation and loss functions. It was trained via mini-batch gradient descent. I wrote it from scratch, using no external libraries except Eigen (for linear algebra). I learned how a Neural Network learns (all the math) -- how the forward pass works, and how learning via backpropagation works. How to convert all that math into code. I’ll write a blog soon explaining how MLPs work in…

Hi HN, Last month, I have worked with my team here at Amy.app to make a stand-alone SAT Tutor. I'm pretty excited about this product, as it's our first attempt to make a stand-alone product targeted directly at students. So far all our products were targeted at teachers/schools/publishers. But we never found product-market fit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Our SAT-Math tutor is designed to find your knowledge gaps and gets you up-to-speed as fast as possible. We believe it offers a fresh approach on how online learning usually works. Please let me know what you think. The product has a 3 days…

Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 I have been recording my university lectures for all of my courses and posting them online for free for anyone to watch. You can click the link for a YouTube playlist, or click the Google Spreadsheet for a breakdown of all the lectures of that course offering. Here is my standard response for those asking for the assignment files, which I unfortunately do not provide: https://www.cs.mun.ca/~dchurchill/teaching/youtube.txt
