24 alternatives to Fast Transition from Firefox to Librewolf
After looking at various browser alternatives to Firefox (my daily driver for years), I decided to try LibreWolf and the transition was trivial on a Debian based system (by HN standards). My extensions even ran without logging in (YMMV). First install LibreWolf: sudo apt update && sudo apt install extrepo -y sudo extrepo enable librewolf sudo apt update && sudo apt install librewolf -y Second: After closing Firefox, copy Firefox profile (in ~/.mozilla/firefox/) to Librevox profile (in ~/.librewolf/). Note: I copied the profile into the default profile (as seen in…

Hi HN! I've been working lately on unifying firefox configuration. Many people work on creating custom `userChrome.css` files and modules, browser user scripts, etc, but it's hard to actually use these a lot of the time. It usually involves cloning a repo, finding a folder and lots of copy paste. My tool (firebuilder) has an interactive CLI to select what to apply, (e.g. firefox hardening, custom CSS, etc) then creates a brand new profile folder for you. You can also seamlessly port from an existing profile folder to preserve all of your history, bookmarks, extensions, etc. For those more…

Hi Hacker News! I made this project to read a WordPress export and create the markdown files for Hugo. It'll speed up the process of moving your blog over to Hugo and let you avoid a bunch of manual work. It came about when I was talking to somebody who was trying to move their site over and didn't want to manually copy and reformat all their posts. They had trouble finding a tool to do it, so I wrote one. I want to make sure it's useful to people before charging them, so it'll give you a download with 3 pages and 5 blog posts converted for free and without asking for any information. If you…

FavBox▲65Hi HN, I am working on a small side project called FavBox. It is a local-first browser extension that extends your existing bookmarks. It builds on your browser’s native bookmarks instead of replacing them or changing your default workflow. Key features: syncs with your browser profile, no third-party data sharing, no ads. no tracking. Clean, minimalist UI with tags support.

I built this browser extension to solve a daily frustration: copying documentation from websites to feed into AI coding assistants like Cursor, Windsurf, or ChatGPT, only to get a mess of ads, popups, and navigation junk mixed in with the actual content. LLMFeeder uses Mozilla's Readability.js (same tech as Firefox Reader Mode) to extract just the main article content, converts it to clean markdown with Turndown.js, and copies it to your clipboard with a single keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+M or ⌥ ⇧ M). No clicking through popups, no selecting around ads, no fighting with modern web clutter.…

I had to do a bit of web-workflow documentation and found the process of gathering screenshots, placing them correctly into a document, and creating captions extremely tiring. I figured it’ll be easy to automate and also a great opportunity to get to know the Browser API, and here we are with the first release of the extension. It’s extremely easy to use but barebones which I plan to change in the near future, so any feedback will be appreciated. I want to keep the docs generation process completely offline to avoid dealing with server costs and GDPR stuff which poses a lot of challenges…

If you use Hugo for blogging, feel free to check it out at https://github.com/arashthr/hugo-flow > Why did you make it? I wanted to be able to write posts on my phone, and it's not easy to do that with Markdown. Adding images is also always a headache: copy them, minimize and compress them, remember the correct syntax for images, and type the path. > How did you make it?
