Products that do what I created a feed of interesting content for myself does
I stopped using Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok etc long back for various reasons. But that left me wanting a simple feed of interesting content because I think that really has some value. So I built one for myself using public APIs and free datasets. I have been using it for couple years now. Thought I should share it wth HN, because why not. Here’s how it works: every few minutes, a cron job fetches content from various APIs and datasets and populates a database table ‘cards’. When you open feedium.app, you are shown some cards from that table chosen randomly. That’s it. :)

I created this chrome extension for myself where I track my own behavior locally and recommend myself content from platforms I want content from (youtube/twitter/quora/etc) in a feed. I made it public just in case anyone else was interested. I would rather have control over my own algorithm and own the data. Also, it gives me flexibility. Turns out I do like these feeds just not when I don't own it haha. Let me know what you think of my implementation?

Howdy! RSSfeedASAP scratches my own itch. I run a regional podcasting directory which gets dozens of messy submission for podcasts. Often they don't even include an xml file and me being a good samaritan I sometimes do the manual work and find it myself. I got tired of that manual work and decided to build a microapp. RSSfeedASAP is this app and I decided to release it in case someone else finds any use in it.

I got fed up with the news reader apps out there so I decided to make my own. Its a simple concept where it tracks all your favorite news sources for new posts and the social shares it received. Then it ranks it HN/Reddit style using social shares as upvotes. It's not meant to be alternative to HN, just a focused way to track your favorite sources. Hi HN! While working on a project that involves frequently parsing a lot of feeds, I needed a fast JavaScript-based parser to extract specific fields from feed namespaces. Existing Node packages were either too slow or merged all feed formats, losing namespace information. So I decided to write it myself and created this NPM package with a simple API. Well, I certainly tried. I had to, because it has a certain quirk inspired by "digital minimalism." The quirk is that it only allows you to fetch new articles once per day (or X days). Why? Let me explain... I want my internet content to be like a boring newspaper. You get it in the morning, and you read the whole thing while sipping your morning coffee, and then you're done! Right now it's a Nicotine patch for brain rot/doom scrolling. You still get the scroll, but with more meaningful content. This project started because I wanted to consume my RSS/Atoms feeds the same way I consume news on HN: a lightweight webpage with a minimalist user interface where I can comfortably browse interesting links.
