Hi HN, I'm new to Rust and, after half of `The Rust Programming Language` I decided to delve into a project I would actually use: a markdown to html compiler that actually serves my micro-blog (I started just right after publishing the project hehe). The project is intentionally small and one-file contained: I wanted to have the full picture in mind. I'm open to comments, suggestions and PRs. If you asked me more convincing arguments to "why did you do it?" rather than "to learn Rust" I would respond with: LLMs are effectively a new type of web users today and will be more and more present…

Hey HN, we’re Robert, Din and Temirlan from Laminar (https://www.lmnr.ai), an open-source observability and analytics platform for complex LLM apps. It’s designed to be fast, reliable, and scalable. The stack is RabbitMQ for message queues, Postgres for storage, Clickhouse for analytics, Qdrant for semantic search - all powered by Rust. How is Laminar different from the swarm of other “LLM observability” platforms? On the observability part, we’re focused on handling full execution traces, not just LLM calls. We built a Rust ingestor for OpenTelemetry (Otel) spans with GenAI…

G'day, HN! I'm one of the maintainers of `llm`. I've been working alongside a trusty group of contributors to bring this project to life, and we're now at a point where we're ready to share it with the world. Large language models (LLMs) are taking the computing world by storm due to their emergent abilities that allow them to perform a wide variety of tasks, including translation, summarization, code generation, and even some degree of reasoning. However, the ecosystem around LLMs is still in its infancy, and it can be difficult to get started with these models. `llm` is a one-stop shop for…

"Game" is a stretch, but I put together this repo containing a pure Rust app which uses SDL2 and compiles to WASM (and can be run in a browser). Older resources were a bit out of date and a bit too verbose for my purposes, so here's a minimal working example.

Hey HN! I'm excited to share a tool I've been working on - a native Hacker News reader built with Rust and egui. Here's a screenshot: https://github.com/haojiang99/hacker_news_reader/blob/main/s.... As a daily HN reader, I've always struggled with keeping track of interesting posts I want to read later. Browser tabs pile up, bookmarks get forgotten, and I lose track of what I've already read. I needed a way to: 1. Browse HN efficiently (across all sections - hot, new, show, ask, jobs, best) 2. Quickly mark posts as "todo" for later reading 3. Mark posts as…

Hi HN, I'm Holger, a developer who worked in the lighting industry. I built this to scratch my own itch and put it on crates.io and PyPI where nothing like it existed. The old file formats (EULUMDAT from 1990, IES from 1991) still work fine for basic photometry. But the industry is moving toward spectral data – full wavelength distributions instead of just lumen values. The new standards (TM-33, ATLA-S001) are barely supported by existing tools. So this handles both: legacy formats for compatibility, spectral data for anyone who wants to work with the new standards. Stack: Rust core, then…

I personally haven't event used or looked at Rust so I don't have an opinion. So now I'm interested hearing what others think? I think the syntax of Rust isn't very appealing, but that's not a good reason to /not/ look at it. Convince me? :)

After two weeks of planning and figuring out how to manage conversions safely, I have finally published the first version of my crate :) It allows you to specify your own colortypes and easily use the same syntax for converting between your custom color types! I also started working on a custom image type that can do math :)

I built `rustormy`, a minimal terminal tool to check the weather with ASCII art and ANSI colors. Features: - Current conditions (temp, wind, humidity, pressure, precipitation) - ASCII icons + color output - Input by city or lat/long - Metric/imperial units, JSON output, multi-lang (EN, RU, ES) - Live mode with auto-refresh - Works out-of-the-box with Open-Meteo (no API key), also supports OpenWeatherMap Install via `cargo install rustormy` or grab a prebuilt binary from releases page Repo: https://github.com/Tairesh/rustormy Would love feedback, feature ideas,…

If you clicked because of the title, congratulations. It's indeed not fake - I genuinely didn't use any third-party libraries, everything is built using Web APIs and Rust's built-in libraries. Regarding how this project came about - I got quite angry when a browser new tab extension I frequently used got poisoned/had a backdoor implanted. Thus this project was born. As there are still some issues currently, everyone is welcome to provide suggestions and report bugs. It's been open source on Github for a while now - if anyone's interested, feel free to check it out. Thank you all, and…
