24 alternatives to Let your body be the gamepad using a webcam
Hi HN, I made a keyboard emulator that tracks your body pose and emits the key presses accordingly. My main motivation was to make my kids move more on rainy days. I already made a couple of mini-games using the body pose [1-3], and those were definitely fun to make and play! However, once the kids learned the tricks, they got bored. I could only produce that much content myself, and soon realized that I lack time for churning out games. Finally, I decided to tap into an endless pool of PC games, preferrably simple and less addictive ones like the Gameboy and DOS games. This project has been…
This software uses a webcam to track body pose and convert movements into keyboard inputs, functioning as a motion-controlled gamepad. It was created to encourage children to be more active indoors by playing existing… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. I recently dug my Nintendo GameCube out of storage to revisit the first Animal Crossing game. Things were mostly as I remembered, but the game's heavy reliance on a clunky on-screen keyboard quickly wore my patience thin. Unwilling to accept this subpar experience, I did what any rational person would do and ordered a rare, Japan-exclusive, keyboard/controller hybrid on eBay, then used a Raspberry Pi Pico to 1. listen for keypresses and 2. send simulated controller events to the GameCube, automating typing in Animal Crossing at a Tool-Assisted Speedrun level. Of course, this oddball…

Airdraw▲269Hey Everyone! I wanted to show my passion project I made a few years back and recently turned into a web app. Airdraw is an app that takes in your hand gestures and converts it into real time drawing capabilities. There are tons of stuff I want to build with this, but most importantly just put it out into the world! Hope you all enjoy :) Tested on my MacOS with Chrome, Safari, and FF I included a link to the original GH project I wrote here - https://github.com/arefmalek/airdraw and a link to the blog where I explained how I made it here -…

Hey HN, I am Niko. I've built this 3D Dino Game In browser using tech like three.js and MoveNet (tensorflow). Basically, it's a normal 3D dinosaur game with a twist: you need to actually perform actions irl to avoid obstacles. Duck to crouch, jump to jump, raise left hand - go left, raise right hand - go right. Game is using your phone/laptop camera to track your body movements and perform in-game actions. PS. Game is 100% client side and I don't record/track/use/save any of your data Hope you find it worth playing. (better play on PC) It's a 100% FREE browser game with…

QWANJI▲174Hey HN! I've built this bit of cuteware (software not solving a problem but just for fun) inspired from the patterns made by swipe typing on mobile devices. To me it seemed like the closest thing to an English version of Kanji and it would be cool to consistently recreate those patterns. The implementation is vanilla js to keep things simple (and from a bit of framework fatigue) I'm keen to see how people use qwanji. Any and all feedback welcome!

Hello everyone! I've created a gameboy emulator to unlock my Wayland session and wanted to share this project to everyone here! I've been a Linux enthusiast since I was a kid. What always captivated me was the freedom to customize my system exactly the way I wanted. With Wayland, we've reached an incredible level of performance. It's like turning your operating system into a video game! I've always been fascinated by the blend of fun and the serious, technical nature of an OS. That’s what inspired me to create this project. I started by studying Wayland, its protocol and how to build a…

A while back I wrote a CHIP-8 emulator (which is considered the Hello, World! of emulators and is more accurately a virtual machine since historically CHIP-8 was an interpreted language running on top of the COSMAC VIP to make game programming easier). But a few months ago I got really interested in embedded software, so decided it would be neat to port my emulator to a STM32 MCU and design a console around it as a learning experience, since CHIP-8 never existed as a physical system. I didn't know much about embedded software when I began, and even less about electronics, but I managed to…

I built this game to test out the MediaPipe hand-tracking API. Play brick breaker using your webcam + hand movement -- levels get progressively harder with faster speed / smaller paddle. All processing is done in real-time within your browser. This project is built using javascript, html canvas, and mediapipe hand tracking. This game is free and open source, offered under an MIT license. Github repo: https://github.com/collidingScopes/manual-brick-breaker Hope it's fun for you -- would love to hear feedback and suggestions for improvement.

I had two old USB gamepads lying around that I wanted to use, but my computer is too far from the couch, so I wrote a little ESP32-S3 firmware that turns USB gamepads into Bluetooth ones. You connect your gamepad to the ESP32-S3 with an OTG cable, power the ESP32 with either 5V somehow or a powered USB hub, and now you can pair the controller via Bluetooth to your PC!
