Products that do what Make Any CLI into a GUI in Acme does
Hey HN. I've become enamored with the Acme editor. It's fascinating because it turns the Vim paradigm on its head: instead of maximizing your use of the keyboard, maximize your use of the mouse. I think this helps optimize for information management, as opposed to text manipulation. I realized a lot of the CLIs I use have the same structure, and with a small program I could convert them into GUIs inside Acme and make them much easier to use. Let me know what you think.

I recently decided to try out Google Tasks as my only task management system, and while I find some things about the interface great, it really isn't suited for someone like me who has multiple lists with lots of elements on each. So, I whipped this together real fast and I can't imagine using Google Tasks without it anymore. I realized you might want it too, so I put it on the web. Enjoy :)

Hi all, I threw together a small prototype I am calling “Notepad.ai”. A new take on UIs for interacting with LLMs. While I enjoy using LLM’s in the chat format I wanted to see what it would be like to do it in a more long form style. It let’s you write in a pretty free form, much like Window’s Notepad, but you can choose to hit ctrl+[ to analyze the text with a preset prompt of your choosing. It has a few other small features. All LLM user interfaces I've seen so far are somewhat frustrating: * ChatGPT web requires a lot of copy-paste, it rewrites whole document even if you need to update a part of it, etc. * Github Copilot completions are rather unreliable and do not leave an option to specify what you want; Copilot's chat sidebar is little more than ChatGPT integrated into the IDE * Google Docs have right UI for non-code text, but they use really dumb model (not Gemini 1.5 Pro). Was getting annoyed copy-pasting stuff from websites into ChatGPT all the time, basically wished Cursor's CMD+K worked everywhere. So I built a little Chrome extension, InPageAI, that tries to do just that: https://inpageai.com Hit a shortcut on any page, it grabs the context automatically, and you can ask AI to summarize, explain, etc. You can also use it to write directly into input fields/text boxes. I’ve had this idea for a new code editor chord grammar bouncing around in my head for over 2 years, and now I can finally release v0.1 of ane. You can run it one-shot from scripts or agents (`ane exec —chord…`) or use its full-on TUI editor. ane is pure Rust, and integrates tree-sitter and LSP to provide a pleasant and predictable terminal code editing experience. I wanted the raw, old skool terminal days of the early internet - BBS, and old green phosphor library comptuers - but running the modern web, with all the bells and jingle jangle whistles (JavaScript, etc). No funding, no VC, just 100% raw terminal fun. Not sure how long the demo will last, but try it out.

I made this after seeing someone posit the idea online yesterday over lunch then spent some time refining it. So far it's pretty impressive IMO! Right now I am running Qwen3-30B-A3B on my 24gb unified memory m4 MacBook Pro at 50 tok/sec and this should definitely not be working for such a large model on my middling hardware. Things are detailed in the README to get up and running and DESIGN.md has details on all the choices and such made along the way.

I have been a devoted vim user for almost 3 decades and frankly it has served me well! Yes I do get tempted to try out the next best thing (though Zed has some serious names so am even more tempted). But frankly something about staying in the terminal that I am just too used to and dont want to change.
