I’ve been building Echo (https://echo.tracerml.ai/), an experiment in making one AI system out of a pool of open-weight models rather than choosing a single model and using it for every task. It started with a simple experiment. I took a group of models, including GLM-5.2, Kimi K2.7 and others, and ran them on the same evaluations. Then I measured what would happen if, for each problem, you somehow knew in advance which models would be useful and how their outputs should be combined. That hypothetical system performed substantially better than any individual model in the pool.…

I recently built a small open-source tool to benchmark different LLM API endpoints — including OpenAI, Claude, and self-hosted models (like llama.cpp). It runs a configurable number of test requests and reports two key metrics: • First-token latency (ms): How long it takes for the first token to appear • Output speed (tokens/sec): Overall output fluency Demo: https://llmapitest.com/ Code: https://github.com/qjr87/llm-api-test The goal is to provide a simple, visual, and reproducible way to evaluate performance across different LLM providers, including…

Ragas is an open-source library for evaluating and testing RAG and other LLM applications. Github: https://docs.ragas.io/en/stable/, docs: https://docs.ragas.io/. Ragas provides you with different sets of metrics and methods like synthetic test data generation to help you evaluate your RAG applications. Ragas started off by scratching our own itch for evaluating our RAG chatbots last year. Problems Ragas can solve - How do you choose the best components for your RAG, such as the retriever, reranker, and LLM? - How do you formulate a test dataset…

Hey Folks! I've been building an open source benchmark for measuring local LLM performance on your own hardware. The benchmarking tool is a CLI written on top of Llamafile to allow for portability across different hardware setups and operating systems. The website is a database of results from the benchmark, allowing you to explore the performance of different models and hardware configurations. Please give it a try! Any feedback and contribution is much appreciated. I'd love for this to serve as a helpful resource for the local AI community. For more check out: - Website:…

Hi all! This morning, we released a new Apache 2.0 licensed model on HuggingFace for detecting hallucinations in retrieval augmented generation (RAG) systems. What we've found is that even when given a "simple" instruction like "summarize the following news article," every LLM that's available hallucinates to some extent, making up details that never existed in the source article -- and some of them quite a bit. As a RAG provider and proponents of ethical AI, we want to see LLMs get better at this. We've published an open source model, a blog more thoroughly describing our methodology (and…

Hey HN! I’m the founder of Unify, and we’ve just released our Model Hub, which provides a collection of LLM endpoints with live runtime benchmarks all plotted across time: https://unify.ai/hub A key finding is that static tabular runtime benchmarks for LLMs simply do not work. It’s necessary to take a time-series perspective, and plot the variations through time. We currently have 21 models provided by: Anyscale, Perplexity AI, Replicate, Together AI, OctoAI, Mistral AI and OpenAI, with more on the roadmap. We test across different regions (Asia, US, Europe), with varied…

Hey HN, Joe and Ethan from Tonic.ai here. We just released a new open-source python package for evaluating the performance of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems. Earlier this year, we started developing a RAG-powered app to enable companies to talk to their free-text data safely. During our experimentation, however, we realized that using such a new method meant that there weren’t industry-standards for evaluation metrics to measure the accuracy of RAG performance. We built Tonic Validate Metrics (tvalmetrics, for short) to easily calculate the benchmarks we needed to meet in…

We’re excited to share ML-Dev-Bench, a new open-source benchmark that tests AI agents on real-world ML development tasks. Unlike typical coding challenges or Kaggle-style competitions, our benchmark simulates end-to-end ML workflows including: - Dataset handling and preprocessing - Debugging model and code failures - Implementing new model architectures - Fine-tuning and improving existing models With 30 diverse tasks, ML-Dev-Bench evaluates agents across critical stages of ML development. To complement this, we built Calipers, a framework that provides systematic performance evaluation and…

I built BenchFlow, an open-source framework that lets you integrate and evaluate AI tasks using Docker-based benchmarks. You can try it out right now by cloning the repo and running a benchmark in minutes. As an AI researcher, I was frustrated with how much time my team spent setting up benchmark environments rather than actually improving our models. We'd spend weeks configuring environments, only to find inconsistencies when comparing results with other teams. BenchFlow started as an internal tool to standardize our evaluation process, and we decided to open-source it after seeing how much…

Today, we're launching the Open Benchmarks Grants: a $3M commitment to fund open-source and academic teams building benchmarks for AI agents. In partnership with HuggingFace, PrimeIntellect, FactoryHQ, Together, Harbor, and PyTorch, the grants provide funding, data development support, and research collaboration. Our ability to measure AI has been outpaced by our ability to develop it, and we believe this evaluation gap is one of the most important problems in AI. Open benchmarks are one of the most important levers for advancing AI safely and responsibly—but the academic and open-source…

I built this because I couldn't find honest numbers on how well VLA models [1] actually work on commercial tasks. I come from search ranking at Google where you measure everything, and in robotics nobody seemed to know. PhAIL runs four models (OpenPI/pi0.5, GR00T, ACT, SmolVLA) on bin-to-bin order picking – one of the most common warehouse operations. Same robot (Franka FR3), same objects, hundreds of blind runs. The operator doesn't know which model is running. Best model: 64 UPH. Human teleoperating the same robot: 330. Human by hand: 1,300+. Everything is public – every run with…

I built CodeLens.AI - a tool that compares how 6 top LLMs (GPT-5, Claude Opus 4.1, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Grok 4, Gemini 2.5 Pro, o3) handle your actual code tasks. How it works: - Upload code + describe task (refactoring, security review, architecture, etc.) - All 6 models run in parallel (~2-5 min) - See side-by-side comparison with AI judge scores - Community votes on winners (blind voting) - Each evaluation gets reflected in the overall AI model leaderboard, showing us best ones Why I built this: Existing benchmarks (HumanEval, SWE-Bench) don't reflect real-world developer tasks. I wanted to…

we had hundreds of discussions with engineering leaders over the past few months, and everyone's trying to understand where they are in the AI journey. we collected all this data into a benchmark and built a free grader to let you know where you stand. you answer on a 1–5 scale (e.g., autonomy runs from "suggestions only" to "agents own multi-hour workflows across code, infra, and external systems") - takes about 5 minutes. https://agent-benchmarks.com/software-factory/ waiting for your results!
