Sup HN, So I got tired of bouncing between Flightradar, MarineTraffic, and Twitter every time something kicked off globally, so I wrote a dashboard to aggregate it all locally. It’s called Shadowbroker. I’ll admit I leaned way too hard into the "movie hacker" aesthetic for the UI, but the actual pipeline underneath is real. It pulls commercial/military ADS-B, the AIS WebSocket stream (about 25,000+ ships), N2YO satellite telemetry, and GDELT conflict data into a single MapLibre instance. Getting this to run without melting my browser was the hardest part. I'm running this on a laptop…

Hi all, I'm excited to announce Stratoshark, a sibling application to Wireshark that lets you capture and analyze process activity (system calls) and log messages in the same way that Wireshark lets you capture and analyze network packets. If you would like to try it out you can download installers for Windows and macOS and source code for all platforms at https://stratoshark.org. AMA: I'm the goofball whose name is at the top of the "About" box in both applications, and I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

This nifty tool plots the traceroute results and shows you the RTT as well as the distance travelled by the packets! Supports MTR, flyingroutes and of course, traceroute. The existing solutions were too limited so I made that. Let me know if you have any feedback

I was developing/selling this application under Roadometry, but sales are getting slow and I'd prefer to make it available for free. This is a desktop Windows application which can be used for counting road traffic. https://roadometry.com https://www.youtube.com/@roadometry2011 The application uses Multiple Hypothesis Tracking (MHT) combined with Darknet Yolo. I trained the network myself. I have a tool-chain for building a video-based training set including associations, but it's quite complex to use. I never ended up training a network to perform association,…

PFELK is a pfSense/OPNsense firewall traffic visualization solution based on ELK stack. It is a highly customizable tool that let’s you have extensive insight into your network traffic. Key points: - pfSense/OPNsense support - openVPN support - pfSense/Suricata/Snort dashboards with interactive Maps support (MaxMind GeoIp fields, src -> dest locations, Heatmap, etc.) - deploy with ansible-playbook, docker or script. https://github.com/3ilson/pfelk

Hey everyone, I want to share a tool, UptimeLog, that helps track internet connections and identify patterns of disconnections and durations, all presented on a calendar heatmap (which I find to be a cool way to visualize different patterns and more). Originally, it started as a quick hack for Linux, allowing me to analyze patterns of periodic internet disconnections over time. However, I have since ported it to macOS, enabling cross-platform compatibility via making the monitoring dashboard accessible through a web page locally.

Hi HN! I'm Mo, a platform engineer at Deltaflare working on critical infrastructure protection. I built Cerberus because traditional packet capture tools (tcpdump, Wireshark) have too much overhead for production CNI environments. eBPF lets us filter and classify packets at the kernel level with near-zero performance impact. Some interesting challenges: - eBPF verifier is strict - every memory access needs bounds checking - Limited to 32 bytes of L7 payload (tradeoff between inspection depth and overhead) - TC vs XDP decision (chose TC for compatibility) Looking for contributors, especially…
