Hi all! I normally work on the PyTorch project but I've been on baby leave for the past month, so I've been playing around with AI as a user rather than a framework implementor. I really liked the agent experience with Claude Code, but I couldn't really justify spending so many dollars on API costs for random side projects. Hello everyone. Claudraband wraps a Claude Code TUI in a controlled terminal to enable extended workflows. On January 16, Ollama added support for an Anthropic-compatible API, and I was curious how far this could be pushed in practice. Anthropic announced today that starting June 15, paid Claude plans get a separate monthly credit pool for programmatic usage (claude -p, Agent SDK). Seems OK at first glance but it turns out the monthly credit pool is charged at API rates, which effectively kills any serious programmatic usage for hobbyists. This is a small Claude Code wrapper which runs claude in a PTY, injecting input, finding the session transcript jsonl file, and using a stop hook to determine when claude is done. The answer is simple: the more "prescriptive" you are with instructions for Claude, the worse your output. The reason is that Claude tries to pattern match - it's been trained on thousands of safe UI patterns, which is why when you ask for "a modern dashboard" it doesn't really think about the problem space; it just defaults to whatever safe design pattern it can whip up at the time. As I started to use Claude Code to do more random tasks I realized I could basically build any CLI tool and it would use it. So I built one that controls the browser and open-sourced it. It should work with Codex or any other CLI-based agent! I have a long term idea where the models are all local and then the tool is privacy preserving because it's easy to remove PII from text, but I'd definitely not recommend using this for anything important just yet. I participated in the Nvidia + Vercel 2 hour hackathon in SF tonight, and built something I've wanted, but hadn't tried building. I implemented an MCP Server and VS Code extension to allow Claude Desktop to place breakpoints, step through code, and execute expressions (assuming language support). So you can ask it a question that requires actually stepping through the code and now it can actually do that - check values for you, etc. It's _definitely_ not perfect. Have improvements?
