Products that do what Project management software for movie production does
This software is primarily aimed at micro budget and student producers who do much of their collaboration over the Internet rather than face to face in an office on a studio lot. I think the key selling feature is the ability to export a script from Final Draft and then automatically create the scene breakdowns and production board. The dominant player in the space is Movie Magic with their Scheduling and Budgeting software which run about $500 each. $1,000 is the whole budget for a lot of student films. For simpler productions this captures the basic features that they would need in…

Hi HN, my name is Sammy. I am new to the community. We're building Shamel (https://www.shamelstudio.com) a solution focused on automating the tedious parts of film scheduling. For script breakdowns we utilize a mix of text parsing algorithms & an LLM to achieve this. We are built by filmmakers for filmmakers (mainly producers & assistant directors). Demo video: https://youtu.be/aEYQ71_9THI My co-founder, Feras, has been a producer for nearly a decade and he's been frustrated by the tedious and mundane nature of creating a schedule, which can take up to 2 weeks. This…

Frameloop is an AI-powered video creation and automation tool, that turns ideas into publishable videos within seconds. I've been working on this for past 4 months now, and have few paying customers as well. Most of them are individual creators, and about 20% are businesses. I'd like to focus more on business users going forwards, and am building branded video features for businesses. There are many other tools at this point, but my focus has been to focus on great UX, and giving users a really good first draft, which is easily editable. And I think that focus is what differentiates us. Try…

This is an app to easily manage a workload of multiple projects and to ease collaboration between teams. We built it on weekends whilst running our agency and it’s still very much in development. I’m posting it because I’m interested on what HNers think we should focus on next: * A ‘client view’ of each project? * Project level permissions to allow freelancers to access particular projects? * Estimates vs Actuals – see how they compare and use this data to predict future delivery times. You can sign up for a free lifetime account at the moment. Please comment if you have any feedback or…

Hi there, I'm a Systems Engineering student in my final year. I've started building projects just for fun. This time, I created a movie recommendation system called Altas Pelis, which finds movies similar to the ones you select based on plot, director, genres, and actors. It’s tailored specifically for Argentina (in Spanish), but by default, it displays its content in English. It was a lot of fun to build. I stored the embeddings in a .npy file, and that’s essentially how it recommends movies—by computing cosine similarity when you select a movie. Sometimes (I’m not sure why or when), the…

In the context of a production line, the role of a project management tool is to maintain efficiency in the process. The next step of optimisation is to continuously identify and improve the machines involved. I am building Shram for humans with this in mind. I would love your feedback to build this into something that could replace your current tool! Thank you! :)

I've been working on this Claude Code pipeline for making 10-minute movies, gluing together Seedance (videogen), Nano Banana (image gen), and ElevenLabs (voice gen), and using Claude as the director. My repo contributes a markdown playbook and a worked example which should make it easier for other people to make their own short movies. A first-pass movie takes around 2.5 hours of wall clock time and costs around $200, and iterating is easy thanks to intermediate artifacts like storyboards and voice samples.

After being frustrated with the budget and learning curve requirements of the big names in the Virtual Production field, I decided to create my own all-in-one platform designed with beginners and less-technical folk in mind. It takes complicated tasks in other engines (tracking, compositing, floor plans, etc.) and makes them two-click solutions. And, with the free companion mobile app, you can track cameras, scan your sets, and (coming soon) do full body motion capture! There's a ton more features that I'm super proud of, and I'm open to any and all feedback! Thanks!

Hello HN! I got pretty overwhelmed with Notion, Trello, etc. (Even though they are great tools!) as an indie dev, so I built an app that is simpler to use and perfectly suited for an indie like me :) You can basically divide your projects into multiple milestones (a milestone could be e.g. a new version), and the milestones can have multiple tasks that are either todo, in progress, or done. The progress for each milestone is calculated with those tasks, and you can also prioritize and categorize the tasks using tags (E.g. for me, #ph turns into "High Priority", and #pm into "Medium…

I’ve spent the last month or so hacking on a prototype to let filmmakers make concept art more quickly with recent generative image tools. This is very much a beta—with current functionality you can make projects, generate shots, and upload scripts which we can process into shotlists. Features I’m working on as we speak: character consistency, location consistency, framing and composing shots. Let me know what you think or what else I should build!

While working as a Unix Systems Administrator (I still do, just with much more limited hours), I use a horrible piece of software called Netdoc (by Brady) for network documentation. It always confused me how something so expensive could be so horrible, so I set out to make something better. After a bit of development and research, I realized inventory software in generally was pretty horrible, so I changed tracks a bit so my software could be useful to everyone from IT professionals to those wanting to keep track of their personal book collections (And be at a price book collectors can…

Read an article yesterday about the H.264 codec increasing their licensing fee by an astronomical amount. And as always, my first shot was how hard could it be to try and build a codec which could be that efficient. I've personally been on a drive to improve my ability to one-shot complex features, products, or make even surgical changes. It's been a few months since I've been doing that, and honestly, results have been great for both work and work/life balance. This was a fun experiment. It burned through tokens, but it helped me identify some more improvements I could make to my…

I'm documenting everything about my process. From learning to code, to building the app, and all the way to my outreach efforts. I'm learning as I go and sharing it with everyone who's not a programer, and is daunted to build a software on their own. Trust me. If I can do it, anyone can! You can find my updates on: https://Claritask.com ...as well as video updates on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdmqmifW4kIcPclXigay1dQ Would love to hear your feedback on my progress and if you have any suggestions on what I can do better. There's so many task managers out…

I'm gauging interest for a service that would help connect devs/designers/copywriters with folks who have short term projects (a few days or weeks of work). The projects would range in value, but should ideally be at least a few $100. Through Forrst, there are already thousands of such people available to work, it's just a matter of if this is interesting to the other side. If it is, would you leave your info? Thanks a ton. I’ve spent the last year getting back into film and testing a bunch of screenwriting software. After a while I realized I wanted something different, so I started building it myself. The core text engine is written in Rust/wasm-bindgen.

We got tired of not being able to accurately answer "When will this be done?" and "Will anyone be required to work overtime on the current schedule?", or spending too much time in meetings and standups trying to answer those questions. Just opened up for beta. Would love some opinionated developers to guide future improvements (or feedback on the general idea).
