Products that do what The Infinite Tolkien – endless narration of Middle-earth does
Inspired by The Infinite Conversation (https://infiniteconversation.com/), I built a site where J.R.R. Tolkien endlessly describes the landscapes of Middle-earth — trees, hills, rivers, ruins, dawns — one scene at a time, forever. If you've read Tolkien, you know the man could spend an entire page describing a single tree. My friends and I always joked about it. When I saw the concept of an infinite AI conversation, the connection was immediate: what if Tolkien never stopped describing things? It's a satirical/art project, not a serious product. The voice cloning is…

An interactive map of Tolkien’s Middle-earth, with events from across the legendarium plotted as markers. I have been commuting a fair bit between the East and West coast, and thanks to American Airlines' free onboard WiFi, I was able to vibe-code a full interactive map of Middle-earth right from my economy seat at the back of the bus. It's rather amazing how much an LLM knows about Tolkien's work, and it was fun to delve into many of the nooks and crannies of Tolkien's lore. Some features: - Plot on the map the journey of the main characters in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. -…

Just finished some work involving ChatGPT when I felt strong Tolkien nostalgia, so asked it to write a song in the style of Hobbit, the result was amusing, so what the heck, here it is: > Write a short song in the style of Tolkien's Hobbit that tells of a skilled programmer creating artificial intelligence Verse 1: In the land of code and screens, Where the bits and bytes do gleam, There lived a programmer so wise, With knowledge and skills that did surprise. Chorus: Creating AI, a masterpiece, A mind so bright, a true release, Bringing forth a new dawn, Of intelligence beyond what's gone.…

Once upon a time I watched Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog and fell in love with the theme, aesthetic, and philosophy. The underpinning text is the Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai, with which the 14-year-old me became obsessed. After briefly reigniting my interest when reading a book by Yukio Mishima, I had a hazy idea of an infinite-scrolling Hagakure. Wherever you are in the world, you can open the page and jump right in at the same point as everybody else. It's not much, but it was an idea that formed and I'm pleased to have executed it.

I made Le Vin Nouveau, an artwork on slopism.art It is a continuously growing cyclic graph of short story fragments. Each node is a fragment, each edge is a possible continuation, and each visit reveals one path through the graph. The graph is being written continuously by 13 agents based on books. Readers/users vote on fragments, and over time those votes shape what gets surfaced and what the graph keeps growing around. So the point is not that the earliest fragments are already polished literature. The point is selection/curation: an artwork whose form emerges through…

Hey HN, Endless Adventure is a DOS-style text adventure game that lets you explore any story you can imagine. It should feel like it came from an alternate universe where we developed LLMs in the 80s. No login needed so you should just stop reading this and go play with it yourself! I’ve poured a lot of love into both the UI and the storytelling engine that powers it. Everything looks simple, but behind the scenes there is a lot of work to keep context, move the story forward, and maintain state for things that are never explicitly exposed (e.g. inventory, karma, quests, NPCs, etc). I…

Hi HN! I put together a 4-hour conversational audiobook tracing their history—from IBM punch cards to the internet, the cloud, hyperscalers, and today’s AI factories. It’s part of a new long-form series on the history of infrastructure (first two episodes were on coal). Would love your thoughts—both on the story and on whether this “conversational audiobook” format works.

I use AI while reading the Bible and I suspect others do too. It's helpful whether you're struggling with the Elizabethan English, or want added context/want to know what theologians say about a passage. So I thought, why not make the AI come to you? TIA for any feedback!

I’m experimenting with modeling tabletop RPG adventures as explicit narrative state rather than linear scripts. Everdice is a small web app that tracks conditional scenes and choice-driven state transitions to preserve continuity across long or asynchronous campaigns. The core contribution is explicit narrative state and causality, not automation. The real heavy lifting is happening in the DM Toolkit/Run Sessions area, and integrates CAML (Canonical Adventure Modeling Language) that I developed to transport narratives among any number of platforms. I also built the npm CAML-lint to…

Hi everyone! Want to share something I'm working on. Here is the brief description: From a single text prompt, craft dynamic worlds (both fictional and real-life, of any kind) filled with interacting NPCs pursuing goals, and control (human-in-the-loop) their behaviour and world state in real-time. Text-to-image to visualise every single step of change in the world's and NPC's state. My main goal was to check if it's possible to use LLMs (GPT-4 currently) to make characters interact with each other but in the end, it ended up with a neat little app where users can interfere with NPC's (and…

I’m excited to share the project I’ve been working on for a while now called Nuvvel, which utilizes AI to generate detailed, rich stories for avid readers. You might think of it as a mix between an endless Netflix series and a dedicated Wikipedia for each series. The platform features interconnected characters, each with their own story arcs, and immersive locations where events unfold, connecting everything together. Each series begins with a story arc told over many chapters. Once a chapter is unlocked, it becomes available for everyone to read. Some chapters might already be unlocked by…

For a while I've wanted to try out the new AI voices for long-form narration, but everything I found required a subscription that didn't justify my limited usage. I came across the open Kokoro model [0] and the voices are very good -- good enough to listen to for hours without the fatigue I got from legacy, robotic TTS voices. The model is 82m parameters and designed to run fast, but I still struggled to get reasonable times from CPU inference on my 12-core laptop. I thought a cloud-based GPU service would let me generate audiobooks fast enough to feed my own self-hosted library, and that…

After watching The Odyssey, I thought it would be cool to check out some scenes from the source in detail, but I don't have time to read the whole book. So I came up with a sort of zoom/microscope, that allows to see the whole book at a glance and then zoom in (by pinching) on the part I'm interested in. I can do so down to the actual source text and get the authentic feel the author intended, at the same time I better understand where am I in the text and also the character and places are clickable so I can quickly orient myself on the context. Moreover each character has relationships…

Hi HN! I'd love your feedback for this AI storytelling game. Remember when you used to read choose-your-own adventure books as a kid? We're trying to re-create that. The site lets you create adventures by seeding them with parameters that end up feeding LLMs: title, genre, writing style, etc. Once you've done that, you can play your book like a game: with custom chapters, illustrations, voice narration, choices, and dice rolls. We’re really into the idea of merging the open-ended generative AI with goal-directed story arcs that the game author can control. Everything is open source (links…

Hello HN: I love the randomness of the universe. I've been spending some time creating a Craps simulator to help experience this love without having to shell out like a real degenerate. For others similarly fascinated: I would love to hear any and all feedback you've got on this. It's meant to be unique in the sense that it's a community-oriented, infinite simulation.

Just about a year ago, the concept for a sci-fi book popped into my head. I instantly knew I have to see it through despite not having any writing experience (and a pretty demanding job). Over 2025, I attended writer circles, improved my writing, and structured the story. Here is the first chapter. I hope you enjoy it :)

There are two parts for this project: 1) The LLM-powered pipeline to extract citations (books + authors) from books and resolve them using both Wikipedia and Goodreads with offline copies I have. The result is data associating Books/Authors to other Books/Authors with accurate bibliographical information spanning centuries. 2) A WebGPU + D3.js powered visualization tool written by Claude Code so I'm able to deal with all this data on the browser on a more or less comfortable experience for the viewer. I spent some months on a off with this project, and definitely the most…
