24 alternatives to UpBeat

Hey everyone, I'm Sean, and I've built UpBeat. Why did I build this? Well, the world is more complex than ever, and every stream, device and social feed screams for our attention whilst telling us that everything is awful. While it's important to know what's going on in the world - do we really need to be bombarded with negativity 24/7? Absolutely not! It's bad for our mental health, it's bad for our attention spans, and it's bad for society as a whole. So that's why I built UpBeat - My friends, loved ones, and I needed a break from the doom cycle. So, here it is :) Some technical…

An honest to god, non-algorithmic reverse chrono list of tech news that passes my signal-to-noise tests, updated hourly. A lightweight a page design as I've been able to keep; simple, clean, fast. No commercial features or aspirations - this is a passion project, something I've been fooling around with on and off for decades. There's a "Top" view too with an LLM edited front page & summary, and categorized views for a large number of topics - see the Directory. A few more buried features to explore, but the fundamental use case is pop in, scan, exit - fast and concise. Your feedback would be…

Hi HN, I’ve been building a small social network where the feed is always chronological — newest posts come first, always. It’s not 100% algorithm-free (there’s still basic filtering to avoid spam or abuse), but the core idea is that every user has a real chance to be seen, even with zero followers. It’s lightweight, works well on mobile, and supports both posts and comments. Most of the content is currently in Portuguese, since it started with a Brazilian audience, but the interface is mostly language-neutral. I’d love any feedback on the concept, UX, performance, or anything else. Thanks!

Think of HackerNews, but only for AI content. Did build this out of the wish for easier discoverability of new technologies in the AI/ML space. Obviously, so far only a tiny small community, but maybe a few of you find it nice to be around and want to post a link there every now and then :)

Hey folks! This is a project that I've been working in my free time for the past few months. It's a news aggregator that uses AI to select relevant articles and summarize them. The default sources are frameworks and libraries' updates, popular HN topics, and languages' subreddits threads that make past a certain threshold. You can run a local instance (needs an OpenAI key) and customize it with your own sources, and adjust the prompt as well. The resulting website can be browsed at https://dev-radar.com/ My next experiment will be with local news. I'm building some feeds with…

I got tired of reading clickbait articles and seeing irrelevant ads. So I pulled in a few RSS feeds to create a news digest using OpenAI 4o-mini for summarisation. Appreciate any feedback you'all might have. PS: News-summarisation may have been done to death, but I'm a UI noob, so I'm using this project to learn some.

This site was born out necessity. I needed a break from the internet we know today: clickbait, politics, low quality content, breaking news, AI summaries Such a breadth of information but so little depth Now I spend (too much of) my time here, going deep. Just when I need to scratch that itch. But I keep coming back because it actually makes me a better engineer. Oh, and I made the site. Right. Anyways, I hope you enjoy crawling the blogs as much as I have. Enjoy! And PLZ reply with any feedback. I am here to make this site better. It will always be free.

I wanted to go through every stage of launching a product, so I built a simple site that lets you discover and bookmark songs, books, movies, and food based on your mood. It has no fancy AI features, it's more like a lightweight, mood based Pinterest. I’m a developer and I built the whole thing using Cursor using an imperative approach instead of vibe coding declaratively. So even though the product itself is pretty minimal, the backend is well structured and it should give me the ability to implement future pivots fairly easily. It was mainly a learning exercise but I'd love to hear…

www.schmeebs.com I built this site in two days. I tried to make it a fusion of Twitter + Digg in that people will be able to follow certain "domains" of news then be able to see popular stuff from there. Its as real time as it can be at this point. Would welcome any thoughts on it!

Hey all, remember back when the internet was fun? Before the days of information overload and AI slop. Back when sites were recommended by close friends instead of an algorithm. I miss that. And I’m trying to bring some of that magic back. So I've built Stumble Again. It's inspired by the OG StumbleUpon, and it’s a place where you can rediscover the internet with a curated selection of hand-picked websites, apps, and hidden gems from the depths of the internet. Check it out and let me know what you think? P.s. Would love to hear your recs for sites to be added. Drop a comment with your top…

A lot of my friends in tech have given up on Twitter, but I still find a lot of value there. People don’t want to waste time trying to improve their feeds. They’re tired of doomscrolling and just want signal without noise. Twitter can be incredible for discovering great insights, but it often feels like trying to find a needle in a noisy, sloppy ass haystack. You doomscroll for 10–20 minutes and maybe find one or two gems. The rest is just fatigue. I’ve been experimenting with building a dedicated site for folks who just don’t want to bother. It’s simply a curated directory of the best…
