Topological visualizations for the masses

Visualizing Maps in R^3 is a tool for creating three-dimensional map visualizations using R. It enables users to represent geographic data in three-dimensional space rather than traditional two-dimensional formats. The… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Ever since I remember I had a lot of curiosity regarding hyper dimensional spaces. Picturing higher dimensions, such an impossible yet exciting idea... So years ago I came across a small GIF of a tesseract. Since then it left me wondering how cubes from even higher dimensions would look like... Years passed and I became a software developer, decided to tackle the problem myself and ncube was the result. ncube allows you to visualize rotating hypercubes of arbitrary dimensions. It works by rotating the hyperdimensional vertices and applying a chain of perspective projections to them until the…

I've been iterating on a small galaxy visualization project that originally started as a university course assignment, using only provided sample data (no real astronomical distances). Recently, I updated it to include redshift-based distance data, which makes the 3D structure more meaningful and closer to real large-scale galaxy distributions. I built this as part of my quest to properly learn data visualization. The code is the easy part! Some lessons learned: - personal verification of the the general truth that pie charts are tough! and the returns are not great for the effort due to people's difficulties perceiving angles - may not use "vanilla" d3 with no React. was difficult to adapt for mobile - the GitHub API provides fairly standardized responses so building dynamic charts wasn't too bad. But when working with streaming data (say Kafka) I can see this getting interesting... schema registry should help but creating a view…

I made a web app to generate 3D models of real places on earth from land cover and elevation data. Click anywhere on the map to get a polygon, and then click "generate". It should work at most scales, but if your watershed or region selection is too large, the result can be less exciting because it's so flat. As a warning, the 3D models can sometimes be too much for my phone. It's nicer on desktop. I'm still working better on mobile support. The land cover data I'm using gives a cool effect, but at some point I'd like to add in global imagery and clouds. The backend is a Python thread…

Hey HN, we're happy to release Mycelium, a JavaScript library for creating graph visualizations of machine learning models or any other directed acyclic graphs. Mycelium powers the graph viewer of the Talaria [0] a research model visualization and optimization system, which was used to optimize the efficiency of Apple Foundation Models [1]. Everything works entirely on the client-side in the browser — we provide a rudimentary ONNX loader out of the box, which you can try by dragging model files into our website. It is also simple to define loaders for your own model formats. The library was…
