What it does

Behind the cards of my game Spore & Skog there is a forest: songbirds, a cuckoo, a woodpecker, a bumblebee, crickets, frogs in the rain, an owl in the fog, ravens. None of them was recorded. Each call is made as it happens, sample by sample, by 574 lines of plain Rust running inside a CPAL audio callback , and the game's Bevy systems tell it what weather it is. This page runs that same Rust, compiled to WebAssembly. Step in. The forest is quiet until you step in. Headphones help: the creatures are soft, and placed left and right. The sliders are what the game sends when the weather over the forests changes. The bars are each creature's odds of calling next under that sky. In the game the…from zaghaghi.github.io

Code is here: https://github.com/bebrws/bevy-snake I had a lot of fun practicing Rust and Learning some Bevy concepts with this repository. Bevy has an incredibly powerful dependency injection system and follows a pattern called ECS which makes it very powerful (and new to me). This simple < 300 lines of code might help with learning some Bevy concepts. It also shows how to copmile for the web/WASM and inject a canvas for the game (or use a pre existing div).

  • Ambient, a multiplayer game engine and platform using WASM/WebGPU/Rust2023 · ambient.run · ▲90

Earlier this year, we released our open-source game engine [0] built with Rust, WebAssembly, and WebGPU. Today, we’re happy to announce the Ambient platform, which brings web deployment, server hosting, and more to the runtime. With Ambient, you can make a game, deploy it to the browser in one command, share your URL and instantly play with others, no downloads or installs needed. Our WASM use is innovative; it is being used as both a sandboxed runtime for user code, and as a way to run the entire Ambient runtime in the browser. This, paired with our ECS data model, enables a highly modular…

"Game" is a stretch, but I put together this repo containing a pure Rust app which uses SDL2 and compiles to WASM (and can be run in a browser). Older resources were a bit out of date and a bit too verbose for my purposes, so here's a minimal working example.

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
