What it does
Update your knowledge of the world. One quiz at a time. Dataguessr is a free browser game based on real-world statistics. Your job is to compare countries and get them in the correct order: Which country has seen the largest growth in productivity? Which countries are most gender-equal? Where do most people live in cities? Annual working hours? GDP per capita? Patent applicatations? Be prepared to be surprised!

Dataguessr is built and maintained by David Bauer , a curious generalist who loves making things . This game is inspired by the work of Gapminder and Our World in Data . It uses data to give you a better understanding of the state of the world. To borrow from Our World in Data's mission: To make progress towards a better future, we need to understand what's already working and where further action is needed. This game is a playful way to learn a bit more every day. Like games that teach you something? Try You Don't Know Africa or Flag Buddy , a learning game for kids. Gameplay inspired by NYT Flashback . Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
