LLM plays Pokémon (open sourced)
I built a bot that plays Pokémon FireRed. It can explore, battle, and respond to game events. Farthest I made it was Viridian Forest. I paused development a couple months ago, but given the launch of ClaudePlaysPokemon, decided to open source!
In plain words
LLM plays Pokémon is an open-source bot that plays Pokémon FireRed using large language models. It can explore the game world, engage in battles, and respond to in-game events. The bot was developed to progress through the game, reaching Viridian Forest before development paused. The creator released the code publicly following similar projects in the space. It is intended for developers interested in AI game-playing and experimentation.

Hey everyone, DNDGenerate is my little adventure into the world of AI and D&D. I wanted to learn more about using ChatGpt to build software and about the openai apis. When I saw how much fun my 9-year-old was having, creating his own D&D worlds. That got me thinking – why not make a tool that uses ChatGPT to help build cool D&D campaigns? It's been a blast mixing my love for tech and D&D. I showed this at our latest dnd game, and my fellow party members seemed to like the results, so I thought I'd share it here as well.
- LPLLM-powered News Hub, e.g "Games, science or open source" on HN2024 · lightfeed.ai · ▲5
We created LightFeed to transform any websites into lightweight and focused news feed. Use LLM to sort and summarize posts using user's custom prompt. For example, you can get anything related to "Games, science or open source" on HN. The news feed is automated daily and you can receive it in browser, email or RSS. We will also open source the LLM web parser/sort library soon o (https://github.com/lightfeed/lightfeed). It reads HTML, turns main content into markdown, uses LLM to parse it into structured feed in JSON, then sort with embedding on user query. It is…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

I was at FB/Meta from late 2013 to early 2023, mostly working in the compiler/runtime spaces. I got hit in the spring 2023 layoff wave. I immediately started making games in my newfound free time (a lifelong interest, and I even worked in AA(A?) back ca. ~2000), and in October 2023 I stumbled upon the idea of a roguelike pachinko/plinko game inspired by Luck Be A Landlord. Things snowballed quickly, I started talking to publishers, then worked like crazy through all of 2024, almost the hardest I've ever worked in my career, and launched the game in December 2024. It's sold…

i wanted to change the habit of reaching for my phone in the morning and doomscrolling away an hour so i built an app to help me. now i have to literally touch grass before accessing my most distracting apps the app is built in swiftui, uses the screen time apis provided by apple and google vision to recognise grass or not i'd love to get your thoughts on the concept.
