Hi, I'm a developer and first time i shipped the real product after observing the startups and indie hackers community for years. I had made so many useless apps [you should check my website https://ansh.life], but this time I built a very useful product that has a number of super easy-to-use tools in one app for video, music, and photo files. Users can compress, convert, resize, and do so much more with easy-to-use tools. Background: I developed a frame-by-frame video cropper to upload cropped landscape videos to Instagram Reels. However, it required FFmpeg, and as a noob video…

I actually started it June 2011 to learn iOS, launched it in September, and have been steadily adding features and making improvements. It's something I use every day and I hope other people find it useful. Enjoy!

So I came across this really cool new service that works like Instapaper for video, and thought I'd share it with HN. Just got my invite today and I've been LOVING it so far. It lets me discover videos, bookmark them and watch offline on my iPad or iPhone. (My hour long subway rides without internet aren't painful anymore. Phew)

So I'm this guy: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2318859 That was great. Then this happened: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2463593 Honestly, I was kind of expecting that sooner or later. So I hunkered down and produced the next generation of "Killer Apps", a new app called "Eureka," which also allows you to find music and movies: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/eureka-music-movies-apps/id448766791?mt=8 It is semi-beta, and I would very much appreciate feedback from the HN community. Please keep it constructive, but don't pull any punches! Thanks, Joe

After years of lurking on Hacker News, I figured it was time to finally contribute back. Fileloupe for Mac is a new Mac application that I've been working on for the last year. Version 1.0 was just released in the Mac App Store but Hacker News readers are welcome to download a beta version of 1.1 here: https://kennyc.s3.amazonaws.com/Fileloupe1.1-72-Beta.zip Fileloupe is a high-performance, incredibly fast file viewer that, I think, makes looking at photos, videos, PDFs and documents a lot better than the existing solutions. It doesn't replace Finder (or iPhoto /…

Hi everyone let me tell you a story: Back 2 years ago I made Almighty https://www.producthunt.com/posts/almighty as a way to tweak some secrets settings like Showing Finder file extension or simply clear system clipboard quickly. Although the app had poor icon and no landing page, many have found it useful. Since then I've been working on an improvements for it, and when SwiftUI came out I decided to rewrite it from scratch to better leverage SwiftUI The result is Almighty 2 https://onmyway133.com/almighty/ with a nicer looking, both in main window and…

Hi HN! I've created [UFreeTools](https://www.ufreetools.com/), a collection of developer utilities (60+ tools and growing) that's completely free, ad-free, and runs entirely in the browser. No data leaves your device - everything is processed locally. ## Background As a developer, I found myself constantly searching for simple utilities like JSON formatters, UUID generators, and color pickers. Most existing options were cluttered with ads, required sign-ups, or sent data to servers. I wanted clean, fast tools that respected privacy. So I built UFreeTools as a modern SPA using…

Raising my hand as someone who's checked Settings > General > Software Update way too many times. I got tired of finding out about iOS updates from Twitter 6 hours after they dropped, so I built EarlyNotify. It's dead simple: the system watches Apple's firmware servers, and when a new iOS/iPadOS/macOS/watchOS/tvOS update hits, you get an email within 15 minutes. That's it. No app to install. No account dashboard. Just an email saying "hey, iOS 26.1 just dropped." It's free, open-source, no upsells, just notifications. Would love any feedback! Happy to answer questions…

Yeah I know I hate the name too but I wasn't about to pay up for odyssey.app. It's an open source project so feel free to poke around with it / fork it. I talk about it more on the marketing website, but a few of us have been using it for the past month and kind of fun. Obviously there will be a slew of issues / feedback / nits that come from this, but c'est la vie. GH is here: https://github.com/johnlarkin1/odozi

Just wanted to share that I just open-sourced Pushpin today under the GPLv3 license. I've been building it since 2012 and it's become one of the most popular iOS clients for Pinboard [0] [1] [2]. It hasn't gotten a large update in quite a while, but it still runs perfectly on the latest iOS and iPad OS devices. Enjoy! i built a heart rate zone training app for runners. ios + apple watch. custom zones, real-time haptics, post-run graphs. all the “smart” stuff you’d expect. but i never talked to a single runner before building it. not even myself lol. started as a thesis → kept building → added features → added a paywall (€4/month!) → launched it → and yeah… no one cared. zero feedback. zero users. just code in the void. i recently made the whole thing free. not trying to “sell” anything now — just seeing if it’s actually useful, and listening this time. curious how others handle this. ever build…

Hi all, i made an iOS HN reader, so i can read HN nicely on my iphone while pushing my daughter on the swing (she likes going on the swing for a good hour on saturdays... go figure). Anyway i figured i'd open source it and show it here: http://splinter.com.au/hacker-news-reader https://github.com/chrishulbert/HackerNewsReader And its on the app store if you couldn't be bothered firing up xcode: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hacker-news-reader/id457519010?ls=1&mt=8 Anyway, hopefully someone out there can learn something looking at the code. There seems to be a dearth of example code /…

orignally shared this on startup school... i thought id' share it here. i'm using a `nocode communication tool` (a web-based interface... a single browser tab!) for all of these things: 1. landing page — the landing page is the product and i wanted for folks to feel "transported" right into the app without having to walk through a shitty b2b marketing-style content. this is akin to my experience back in the `BBS` days of the mid-90's where you were immediately into the app, community, and tool. no terms of service, no privacy policy. just pure, immediate value. 2. building community — we…

Hi everyone, after months of hard-working, I'm glad to have something to show HN. It's an iOS app to help you directly capture and intercept HTTP/HTTPS Traffic from your iPhone/iPad with ease. It's suitable for any developers who would debug iOS without needing a computer. You can also share all traffic to Proxyman macOS via AirDrop for better previewing. - Please join a beta in TestFlight (iOS 14+): https://testflight.apple.com/join/nQ69eb35 - How it works if you don't have any devices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpzpoTN8efM&feature=youtu.be…

I've always been frustrated with the complexity of todo mobile apps. I use Todoist and Notion to manage my work, for instance, but every time I'm out and about and think of a task I need to capture, the mobile apps feel too complex. Or I might think of a feature to add to a product, but don't want to deal with Linear's mobile web view. So, I built Defer: a simple iOS "capture" app that syncs to your menu bar on your Mac. No signup needed, it all "just works" with your Apple ID. Intentionally simple and lightweight.
