24 alternatives to After 2 weeks of learning Swift, I've published my first iOS app

Hi y'all! I am full stack web developer, and recently I started to mess around with Swift. I've been having a lot of fun and I actually build little Countdown app ( I know, how original..), but I just wanted to share it with the world!

Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. After 2 weeks of learning Swift, I've published my first iOS app launched in 2024; newer entries below may have overtaken it.

I have always dreamed of learning Swift and creating apps for iOS, but I never found the motivation to do so. I was scared by the complexity and the learning curve of programming with UIKit and Storyboard. I thought they were too complicated and too boring for me. But then I discovered SwiftUI, the new framework for building user interfaces for Apple platforms. I was captivated by its simplicity and elegance. I watched some videos and read some articles about it and I was blown away by what it could do. I decided to give it a shot and see if I could learn it and make something with it. I set…

Every morning I'd open App Store Connect in Safari, enter my password for the millionth time, then wait 8 seconds for the dashboard to load and continue fumbling around for what I needed. Everything took too many clicks and way too long to load. I did this for years and got tired of it. Good thing Apple provided API access for all this data. So I finally built the app I wanted, just the way I liked. Fast, keyboard-friendly navigation, data syncs and gets stored only on the local device. Meet AppDesk — a native macOS client built with SwiftUI for App Store Connect. Everything runs locally —…

Hi there! I recently launched my iOS development agency with a subscription model, inspired by DesignJoy founder Brett Williams. My agency is among the first in the US (or in Texas, or in Dallas ;)) to offer iOS development services on a month-to-month basis. The subscription is flexible, allowing for pauses or cancellations at any time. With 10 years of experience in software development and success as a consultant for Fortune 500 companies, I aim to leverage my expertise to help startups and other companies elevate their iOS development.

i built a heart rate zone training app for runners. ios + apple watch. custom zones, real-time haptics, post-run graphs. all the “smart” stuff you’d expect. but i never talked to a single runner before building it. not even myself lol. started as a thesis → kept building → added features → added a paywall (€4/month!) → launched it → and yeah… no one cared. zero feedback. zero users. just code in the void. i recently made the whole thing free. not trying to “sell” anything now — just seeing if it’s actually useful, and listening this time. curious how others handle this. ever build…

I finally released my first iOS app following the excellent tips give on https://designcode.io/.I have open sourced the app https://github.com/NikantVohra/HackerNewsClient-iOS. I know there are lots of Hacker News Clients on App Store but I made this app just to learn something new and not with the motive of competing with anyone.I would love to get the feedback of the HN community on this app. The App store link for the app is https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hn-app/id983203003?ls=1&mt=8.

Had some time available and wanted to play with user interface design, so I thought of a simple app that lent itself to that. Coding was roughly 8-10 hours for the whole thing, then another 15-20 hours to take the pictures (homemade studio, iPhone for camera, Gimp to edit). Looking forward to your feedback, and I have promo codes available for anyone that wants them https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/simple-knot/id593421479?mt=8

My first iOS game is released. It took me 2 weekends to develop and 9 day approval time. Here are a few promo codes. If you take a promo code, can you please also leave a review? Happy to answer any questions. An update is already being prepared for iPhone support as well as a more major update that adds difficulty adjustments and a "dreaded" twist :-) The Game: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pop-corn/id905859076?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Promo Codes: F79LRP4JNWT4 X94XXNNW77E3 PEWJ77FHTME7 9PHN99RLLE6W

Well HN, I've finally produced something I think is worthy of sharing, but I didn't do it "in a weekend". Yeah, it's an iOS puzzle game. And yeah, it's a game I built because I wanted to play it rather than based on market research, so all this sort of makes it the antithesis of a popular HN post. But whatever. Still hoping for some of that patented (har har) expert HN feedback. Critique any part of it except the music. Also, PM me for upgrade codes, or I can post some here if there's any interest. Hi HN! In the last couple of weeks I've been working on Cranki: Cranki = Crosswords + Anki. (It's a stupid name tbh, haha) I like doing crosswords in Spanish (to learn vocab) but none of the apps out there allowed me to use my own list of words that I come across. So I built one instead. It's entirely client-side. No server, no database, no accounts, etc. Your words and stats are stored in local storage. I built this for myself but let me know if you like it!

Hello, here's my first app on the App Store, a week end project I've made with a friend. I had the idea - questionable - and did the UI. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/instatus/id622077531?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D2 (there's also the free version) The concept it's pretty simple, share your thoughts on Instagram, only words on white background so it will seems that your words will float into your friends feed - I suggest to not use any filter! - got already some ideas for future upgrades. I'm giving away 3 code to get the full version, if you want one, just ask! Best, Filippo p.s. This message…

Hi Everyone, I created a mobile app called Accumoo, and I would appreciate it if y'all can have a look, download and give me a favorable review. Lots of blood, sweat, tears and love went into this app, and I hope you LOVE it as much as I do - it's the app I always needed and wanted. Anyhow, I've been a Rails developer and Software Engineer for a long time, and this is my first stab at a mobile app. It's a "habit tracker" app on steroids that's just fun to use - syncs across devices, local-first architecture - and an easter egg game for good measure. Help a disabled vet out and give it a go.…

One week ago, I launched a new directory, which is a curated list of useful and cool Mac apps and tools that are not available on the app store. Initially, I wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but I managed to create it in just one day. I started promoting it on Twitter and some communities, and although I got some views, I didn't make any sales. Then the next day, I wrote a post on a subreddit related to Mac apps about the directory I launched. People loved it so much, and I got 39k views on that post, leading to around 2.5k visitors on my site. Thanks to this exposure, I made my first 4…

https://itunes.apple.com/dk/app/id880331892 One of those side projects that turned out fun, but have absolutely no idea on how to get people using it. (we keep sharing it on our social networks, and got close to a 100 downloads) Funny story about the name is that we made up a name before we knew what the app was going to be. It was just a fun exercise we indulged in at the pub, a bunch of laughs over silly app names for imaginary projects.

Hi HN, I just began another project, I haven't made a mobile app in over a year so I thought I'd start again with this fun project that was on my backlog of ideas. Simple concept, I just need some initial hype for it to really work. - The core logic is showcased on the pre-launch website I made, you can vote on opinions, comment, etc. Lmk if you want involed in the project.
