Serialization framework with some interesting numbers: 10-20x faster on nested objects than json/protobuf. Technical approach: compile-time codegen (no reflection), compact binary protocol with meta-packing, little-endian layout optimized for modern CPUs. Unique features that other fast serializers don't have: - Cross-language without IDL files (Rust ↔ Python/Java/Go) - Trait object serialization (Box) - Automatic circular reference handling - Schema evolution without coordination Happy to discuss design trade-offs. Benchmarks:…

I had already posted the project a couple of years ago, and it gained some interest, but a lot of stuff has been done since then, especially regarding performance, a completely new JSON store, a REST API, various internals refactored, an improved JSONiq based query engine allowing updates, implementing set-oriented join optimizations, a now already dated web UI, a new Kotlin based CLI, a Python and TypeScript client to ease the use of Sirix... First prototypes from a precursor stem already from 2005. So, what is it all about? The system uses ideas from ZFS (a keyed index trie, storing…

Hey HN, I’m sharing ts-chan, an NPM package providing Go-like concurrency primitives, including channels and select statements, for TypeScript and JavaScript, supporting Node.js, Deno, Bun, and browsers. This is something I've built to make implementing Go-style "control loops" feasible in JavaScript, but there are many possible applications. Highlights: - Features a FIFO processing Chan class and versatile Select class for concurrency control. - Supports buffered channel and channel close semantics very close to Go's. - TypeScript-first implementation. - Defines a simple "channel protocol"…

I've just released an early version off my project I've been working on for a few months now and would love some feedback. https://github.com/fourlexboehm/faasta I was surprised there isn't yet an open/source and standards compliant way to host wasi-http functions in a way that takes advantages of WASM, a multi tenanted application. If you're not familiar with wasi, Compared to something like AWS Lambda, this approach is much more efficient as a single process can serve 1000s of function invocations concurrently and asynchronously, instead requiring an entire VM.…

Hi All, I released an EVM/Solidity decompiler recently, here: http://www.eveem.org/ Since it uses symbolic execution underneath, the results are quite awesome. There is also an api that delivers a .json / middle language representation of every contract here: http://eveem.org/code/{{address}}.json The plan is to open-source it as soon as I clean up the code a bit. Spent the last two month crunch-time to get it delivered from scratch :)

Protobuf is a fairly simple format, but the way people are first introduced to it often doesn't speak to them. That is how it was for me at first. I tried to address that in two ways: simple visual diagrams where a picture does the work better than prose, and interaction so you can get a feel for the language and how it behaves without installing anything. Some parts of the guide run a real Protobuf compiler, bufbuild/protocompile, in the browser through WASM. It's the same compiler the buf CLI uses. Feedback welcome. Disclosure: I work at Buf, and Buf owns the domain. The guide started…

Hey HN Borgo is a programming language I've been working on for the past year. It looks like Rust (because I didn't want to write a parser) and compiles to Go. What I want from a programming language is: - Sum types - Pattern matching - Option/Result types - Garbage collected - Concurrency without async - Good third-party package ecosystem Borgo is my attempt at filling the gaps in the list above, adding features seen in ML-like languages to Go. One ambitious goal of this project is to be compatible with existing Go packages. Generating bindings is pretty much automatic (there's an…

Go v1.21, scheduled for release in August 2023, adds experimental support for the WebAssembly System Interface (WASI). It'll be possible to natively compile server-side WebAssembly applications with Go, making Go a first-class citizen along with C/C++, Rust and Zig. GOOS=wasip1 GOARCH=wasm go build ... WASI is still in preview and is missing some key features, e.g. the ability to create sockets. Some WebAssembly runtimes have taken the initiative to extend the WASI preview, enabling a wider range of applications to run as WebAssembly modules. Today, we're open sourcing our WASI library…
