CUDA is NVIDIA's language for GPU programming, allowing you to mix write CPU and GPU code in C++ in one file. By chaining a few projects that compile CUDA to OpenCL, then Vulkan, then WebGPU, you can experiment with this GPGPU language on any hardware.

Hi HN! I'm just sharing a project I've been working on during the LLM Efficiency Challenge - you can now finetune Llama with QLoRA 5x faster than Huggingface's original implementation on your own local GPU. Some highlights: 1. Manual autograd engine - hand derived backprop steps. 2. QLoRA / LoRA 80% faster, 50% less memory. 3. All kernels written in OpenAI's Triton language. 4. 0% loss in accuracy - no approximation methods - all exact. 5. No change of hardware necessary. Supports NVIDIA GPUs since 2018+. CUDA 7.5+. 6. Flash Attention support via Xformers. 7. Supports 4bit and 16bit…

I've been playing around with https://github.com/zphang/minimal-llama/ and https://github.com/tloen/alpaca-lora/blob/main/finetune.py, and wanted to create a simple UI where you can just paste text, tweak the parameters, and finetune the model quickly using a modern GPU. To prepare the data, simply separate your text with two blank lines. There's an inference tab, so you can test how the tuned model behaves. This is my first foray into the world of LLM finetuning, Python, Torch, Transformers, LoRA, PEFT, and Gradio. Enjoy!

This is a GPU "software" raytracer (i.e. using manual ray-scene intersections and not RTX) written using the WebGPU API that renders glTF scenes. It supports many materials, textures, material & normal mapping, and heavily relies on multiple importance sampling to speed up convergence.

Hi HN, We’re a small team of OS, virtualization, and ML engineers, and after three years of development, we’re thrilled to launch the beta of our CUDA abstraction layer! We decouple the Kernel Shader execution from applications that use CUDA into a Wooly Abstraction layer. In this abstraction layer, we compile these to a new binary, and Shaders are compiled into a Wooly Instruction Set. At runtime, Kernel Shader launch events initiate a transfer of Shader over the network from a CPU host to a GPU host, where they are recompiled. Their execution is managed by Wooly Server software to achieve…

Superficially, it may look similar to Nvidia's Warp or OpenAI's Triton, but instead of transpiling a subset of Python to the target language, it implements dynamic codegen in pure Python. Hello HN, I'm releasing Hyperdiv (https://hyperdiv.io), a framework for rapidly developing reactive browser UIs in Python, with immediate-mode syntax and using Shoelace (https://shoelace.style) as its built-in component system. This short coding video will give you a good idea of what it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XJKfxaqvGE I wrote a brief article about the motivation and approach: https://hyperdiv.io/intro.html Hyperdiv doesn't aim to compete with serious full-stack frameworks. The core aim was to make it easy and fast to…

We ported pbrt-v4 to Julia and built it into a Makie backend. Any Makie plot can now be rendered with physically-based path tracing. Julia compiles user-defined physics directly into GPU kernels, so anyone can extend the ray tracer with new materials and media - a black hole with gravitational lensing is ~200 lines of Julia. Runs on AMD, NVIDIA, and CPU via KernelAbstractions.jl, with Metal coming soon. Demo scenes: github.com/SimonDanisch/RayDemo

I saw a tweet that tinygrad is so good that you could make a graphics library that wraps tg. So I’ve been hacking on a gtinygrad, and honestly it convinced me it could be used for legit research. The JIT + tensor model ends up being a really nice way to express light transport all in simple python, so I reimplemented some new research papers from SIGGRAPH like REstir PG and SZ and it just works. instead of complicated cpp its just a 200 LOC of python.

I thought this might be useful to C++ engineers working on games, graphics, content in C++ looking for a good lightweight html5 Electron style UI engine. AffineUI is deeply optimized and meant to run as close to 120hz as possible, but supports (most) of html5 and is easy to integrate with your app. It also is highly crash resistant using weakrefs, handles, etc. to avoid footguns. A zero-dep drop in lib that could be a cross between DearIMGUI and Electron. Hey all, I just wanted to share a project I've been working on for the past month. After years of heavy frameworks, I really like the idea of using htmx, but it’s a little too low level for me and needs a thin layer above it to facilitate things like components, better syntax with complex JS inside of an attribute, etc To try and solve this problem with a very minimal stack (golang + htmx) that I've been really enjoying, I'm building this project to cater to my needs and was thinking it would be useful for other developers.
