Since everyone seems to be making a github application, I thought I'd share mine. It's an aggregated view of all of a given person's github projects, as well as easyish lookups for linkedin/stackoverflow/hackernews. It attempts to determine both productivity (how much code did this person write?) as well as impact (did anyone care?) Several months ago, I built a "stealth" feature that I could use. It hasn't been advertised, and I've been the only user. As I find it useful for myself, I believe others (software developers) may like it too. I created a leaderboard showcasing the top 1000 GitHub repositories based on the number of stars. With GitHub hosting over 100 million public repositories, this leaderboard highlights the top 0.001% in terms of the number of stars. Stars might not be the perfect metric for adoption—metrics like the number of monthly downloads could be more accurate—but this list still represents some of the most popular and influential projects in the open-source community. Two weeks ago I wished I knew how quickly the watcher count on some of my repos was growing. Now I can. In addition to watchers, I'm also tracking issues, forks, and repo size. I find it fascinating to watch how issues trickle in throughout the day for large project like Rails http://bit.ly/rvsNLM. After the recent HN discussion[1] about what's wrong with GitHub's "Watch" feature, I was spurred to finish a pet project I put about 8 hours into a month ago. HubStar[2] is the missing "star" feature for GitHub repositories. The idea is you log into the site using GitHub's OAuth, download a browser extension (currently only Chrome is available), and you can now star repositories directly from their GitHub pages.
