Products that do what I built an open-source wallpaper gallery for GitHub repos does

Hey HN, GitHub has hundreds of wallpaper repositories with thousands of images, but actually browsing them is painful. You either clone gigabytes locally or click through the file browser one by one. So I built WALL·E Gallery. Use existing collections or Paste a repo URL→ instant gallery. How it works: - Fetches repo tree via GitHub (no cloning) - Proxies thumbnails (~50KB instead of 10MB originals) - Works with private repos too (with GitHub token) Infinite scroll, search, dark mode, mobile friendly, self-hostable. No accounts, no tracking. Live: https://walle.theblank.club…

Morning HN. I had an issue recently where I wanted to share some private Github repositories with a larger audience than usual (25k+) on Youtube and was simply considering making my code public. Came up with an idea to build a middleman service that handles user access/management, generate share links and even paywall individual repos. Thought I might as well share here in case there's another dev out there who might be interested in sharing a private repo. Keen to get any feedback as I'm currently building

Hey HN! I just released Octarchive, a simple tool to back up all repos on a GitHub/Gitea account to a local folder written in Go. If you're worried about loosing your FLOSS work, but are can't keep up with manually mirroring all the repositories, this might be the tool you're looking for. I'd love to get your feedback :)

I started this as a weekend project and posted it on HN 5 years ago. 300,000 users later, I just released v4 today. Octotree [1] gives GitHub a sidebar that improves file navigation and code/pull request review. Works on Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari. Any comment or feedback is appreciated. I kept failing at building in public for the same reason every time: not fear of judgment, just the blank page after a long day of shipping. Something always happened. But converting "refactored auth flow" or "fixed that edge case that's been annoying me for a week" into something worth posting felt like a second job on top of the actual job. So I'd skip it. Then skip it again. Then stop entirely. The approach: connect your GitHub, it pulls recent commits and repo activity, and generates draft posts for multiple platforms in your tone — raw founder voice, not content creator polish. The idea…

I have finally convinced my son to take a step forward to publish something in public domain. As he is learning Python these days, he made a scraper to download Cambridge past papers (GCSE / IGCSE). Hey everyone, my friend and I created a GitHub Wrapped video for developers to showcase their activity on the platform in a more fun way. The implementation is open-source (https://github.com/rendleyhq/github-wrapped-2024) if you're interested in how it was built. To get a bit geeky, we used masks, keyframe animations, luma key shaders to remove the background from the confetti video, and some other techniques. Also, everything is rendered directly in the browser!! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the rendering performance, especially if you're running this on your…

Hey HN, I built a platform that allows developers to buy and sell GitHub repositories using private forking. The idea is to help indie developers, open-source maintainers, and teams monetize their work while ensuring buyers get fully functional projects with minimal hassle. Many developers create great projects but lack the time or resources to maintain them. Instead of letting them fade away, why not sell them to someone who wants to continue the work? Here is how it works: - Sellers list theis GitHub repos in the platform - Buyers purchase repos - Buyers automatically added as…
