Hi HN! Thanks for your attention to my post. It was a big challenge to run most of Node.js packages in browser, fast moreover. Virtual File system, resolve import/export. I got cold many times, depressions, burned out, yet still alive and finished it. Many guys helped me with an advice. Many users give a lot of positive feedback. There are 200,000 monthly unique users. I work full time now because of the freemium business model. To be honest - I am happy after many years of hard work.

I've been working on an MMORPG that is now in alpha as a solo developer. Here are the major open source technologies that I use: Blender - 3D modeling software for creating the overall environment and every game object. I've gotten a lot of CC and Public Domain assets from https://poly.pizza GLTF - I export assets from blender to the GLTF asset format JSON - I write a JSON config for every game object that describes things like its name, its interactions, its collisions, etc. Node.js exporter - I iterate over the environment and every asset to create a scene hierarchy. I use…

Colin here, creator of Nub. I’ve had the general shape of this in mind for years. Nub runs your code with stock `node`, augmented with a `--require` preload hook[0] that adds a transpiler (oxc-powered, packaged as a Node-API add-on), registers a module resolution hook[1], and injects polyfills as needed for APIs like `Worker`, `Temporal`, etc. All purely additive, your code ultimately runs using Node’s actual engine & stdlib implementations. What do you do when private equity buys your old company and fires the maintainers of the popular open source project you started over a decade ago? You reboot it, and bring along some new friends to do it. Video.js is used by billions of people every month, on sites like Amazon.com, Linkedin, and Dropbox, and yet it wasn’t in great shape. A skeleton crew of maintainers were doing their best with a dated architecture, but it needed more. So Sam from Plyr, Rahim from Vidstack, and Wes and Christain from Media Chrome jumped in to help me rebuild it better, faster, and smaller. It’s in beta…

Chunk co-founder here. We spent the last 2 weeks building this to scratch our own itch: As developers, we often have problems that could be solved just by running a few lines of code. Sometimes, running this code on your local machine is fine. But other time, the code need to run automatically reacting to external events or to run continuously, which means, it needs to run on a server somewhere. So now, you have to find a cloud provider, to package or build the code and finally to deploy it. All of that for what could be literally be 4 lines of code. We couldn’t find an easier way to do…

Hi HN, I built Titan, a backend framework where you write routes and logic in JavaScript, and the CLI compiles everything into a single Rust + Axum binary using the Boa JS engine. No Node.js is required in production. The idea is to keep JS developer experience while getting Rust performance and a self-contained deployable server. Current features: JS route DSL Action system mapped to Rust esbuild bundling Generated Rust server with Axum Hot-reload dev server Single-binary output Repo: https://github.com/ezet-galaxy/-ezetgalaxy-titan Would love feedback on the…

We've rolled out a feature for openbase.com that we think is a DX game changer for Node devs. Since the emergence of ECMA Script modules, it's been a continuous guessing game as to what kind of exports a package has. That's never really been discoverable without using a site like unpkg, or installing the package and inspecting package.json. Openbase now displays the ES Module support level (e.g. type of exports) on all of their package pages. We added this feature because our devs are some of the folks continually caught off guard by installing an NPM dependency only to find out it's…

I wanted to have a framework that would let me build web apps faster than ever before. I didn’t care if it was a little hacky or didn’t use best practices — I wanted to be able to get a multi-user application out the door in hours instead of months. I researched the CMS space for months before deciding to build something from scratch. My goal was to be 90% done building a web app once I had the static HTML and CSS finished. I’m not a big fan of building out API endpoints over and over again for every new app, fiddling with a database, or doing lots of config. What I ended up with was a…

Hey HN! I've been working on Muxamp for over a year now, and I decided that there's no point in keeping the source closed. (I never planned on making money from it.) I've learned a lot since I started, and I hope others can benefit from its release--and perhaps teach me a thing or two as well :)

Hello HN! I've been working on http://underthesite.com for the last month and now think it is ready for some full strength HN feedback. What do you guys think? It crawls up to 10 pages of a given site while you wait, looking for community-provided CSS / XPath selectors and regular expressions. Additionally, I'd like to appeal to you to submit matchers for technologies that you care about. Technologies are easy to add, so add your favorite jQuery plugins, analytics tools, client-side node.js wrappers, what have you. I'm going to be running a large crawl in the next few days and want to make…

In brief: I'm Aiden, 18, and have spent the past 2 years of high school working on Million.js, an open source React alternative with 11K stars on GitHub and hundreds of thousands of npm downloads. Recently, I released automatic mode, which detects slow React components and automatically optimizes the reconciliation phase. It's still in beta but chugging along. It's around 70% faster than React on the JS Framework Benchmark and you can see how I did it here: https://million.dev/blog/virtual-dom Interested? Repo here: https://github.com/aidenybai/million My name is Aiden Bai and I'm really interested in HCI research, particularly within user interface (UI) and web development. At the time of writing this, I'm a student at Camas High School. In July 2021, Million.js began as an experiment with Virtual DOM because I was curious with how UI libraries worked. I was frustrated with the lack of a modern, fast, and modular Virtual DOM library for JavaScript. Virtual DOM had been around for almost a decade, yet many Virtual DOM libraries still struggle with render speed compared to…

Progressive Web App, "Finding Nora": https://nora.now.sh/ It was also my first attempt at TypeScript + React. Preliminary conclusion: Getting started is a bit slower and the code more verbose, but refactoring become sooo much easier. And: Almost no need to reload and debug anymore. Once TypeScript is satisfied with my code it generally just works. Source code and more information can be found here: https://github.com/vnglst/finding-nora

After ~1.5+ yrs of posting here (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18755996) about webgo, this is an update, the release of v4.0.7. I know a lot of people consider "web frameworks, router etc." a joke/amateur/reinventing the wheel. But I've been able to learn a lot from it and am happy maintaining this package. Hope you like it! Webgo maintains its promise of standard library compliance, and getting out of the execution path asap. And this version comes with quite a lot of performance improvement in terms of latency, memory usage and better code altogether.…

This is a Node.js compatible runtime in the browser. It supports CLI apps, Vite, and some agents (like Pi Agent) as well. Some notes: - This runs all code in a web worker using the host javascript runtime with rewrites for module loading and AsyncLocalStorage support using Oxc compiled to WASM. - Most of the libraries are bundled straight from Node.js upstream with light overrides where needed, ensuring compatibility. Libraries were only reimplemented where really needed - Despite having great integrations with the Puter desktop and APIs, this can be used completely seperately with OPFS…
