My background project for the last two years has been re-implementing my 2004 C++ shoot'em up game in TypeScript + WebGL, and it's finally done (just in time for the 20th anniversary!) Play the game online: https://nicollet.net/blog/darklaga/darklaga.html Technical article about the remake: https://nicollet.net/blog/darklaga/remake.html I have tested Firefox, Chrome and Edge on desktop and mobile (no access to a device capable of running Safari). It's amazing how much difference 20 years makes: the hardware is so much more powerful, the web…

I've posted this game here before, hopefully a repost is fine as the game has changed quite a bit (improved AI, improved mapeditor, much quicker gameplay, etc). Game is based on JavaScript/Canvas and WebSockets. On the browser side the map is pre-rendered (as a background image), just the mobile units/buildings and animations are dynamically rendered. The lobby server is made in node.js, but the game server is C++ for performance reasons (mainly the pathfinding). I found the C++ WebSocket libraries out there to be too difficult to use so I made my own based on the rfc. Overall I…

The idea for this pixel art puzzle game came from playing Triominos, and wondering what would happen if you replaced numbers with colors. A few mutations later, and it became a mobile game where you click a piece to turn it in place, to recreate pixel art. I built the basic idea in just over an hour on Twitch. Dev-wise, I used a homebrew Typescript game engine I created, called Booyah (https://github.com/play-curious/booyah). The graphics are all rendered using the awesome library PixiJS. What do you think?

hey all, We’re excited to share bash.gg - a way to play all games on your browser. Our mission is to enable you to play games, from any device, with your friends. We're planning on using a combination of WebGL (soon WebGPU) & pixel streaming to run any game. Our product is going viral within a few school districts, here’s what we’ve built. The Problem: Poor Experiences: Mobile gaming is limited by hardware. Most mobile games are spammy & focused on optimizing value extraction. Existing web games are junk. Expensive: For good games, you need a console or PC, costing $600 - $3k. Not Scalable:…

Atlas Fury is an action game for mobile devices. I wanted to create a game I would play wherever I go that was inspired by Tyrian from the 90s. It's a time waster, but eh what arcade game wasn't a time waster? This is the first time I've created a game with Godot. On mobile no less which has it's fair share of issues. For example, iOS runs slower than Android. I'm not complaining, I profiled and targeted some older devices approx. 4-7 years ago, so far so good.

I used to play Joust with my little brother on the BBC Micro many moons ago and have fond memories of it. So when I was experimenting with Claude Opus 5 it was a nice inspiration for this game. Did a little research and found there aren't many games out there that just work in a browser without ads, loading screens or account sign-ups. So I've put this directly on the landing page with no noise in the way - it works on any browser on any device and loads instantly. If it doesn't work at all, please tell me. And also let me know if you think it needs music - I went without it to begin with…

In 2024 Google Labs released GenDino: a version of the Chrome Dinosaur Game that let users turn prompts into skins. GenDino is dead. The Dino Game happens to be OS, so I forked it and created Vibedino to let your prompts change the actual game. Make the dino front-flip every time it jumps. Add a hard mode after 1000m. Break my backend by implementing the full PageRank algorithm. Give it the dumbest feature idea you can think of and then approve it yourself to deploy to the main site!

After graduation, my friend and I decided to build mobile games instead of finding jobs. Today we released our first game called Monster Rivals. It is a fighting game with simple RPG elements such as stats and items with unique powers. We have a lot more planned for it in the future, but wanted to get the game out as soon as possible. The game also allows you to fight your friends through Facebook. The game data including the user/character profile is all on my servers hosted on linode. We have 3 servers- [primary mongo], [secondary mongo], [mongo arbiter, redis(for leaderboards), nginx…
