24 alternatives to LPBacked
I spent way too long watching fund managers burn months trying to find LP contact info — piecing together names from LinkedIn, guessing emails, paying $24k/year for PitchBook when they only needed the LP slice. So we built LPbacked. Search by AUM, geography, fund type. Get the actual decision-maker's email and phone. Reach out yourself, skip the placement agent. Would love feedback from anyone who's been through a fund raise — especially on data coverage gaps.

VCbacked▲181I built this for anyone whose business revolves around funded startups — whether you're a VC tracking new raises, a sales team targeting high-growth companies, a recruiter staffing fast-scaling teams, or an agency looking for clients with fresh capital to spend. The problem I kept running into: Crunchbase has data but no contacts. Apollo has contacts but isn't curated for VC-backed companies. PitchBook and CB Insights are $5–25K/year and overkill for most use cases. We manually verify every contact and add 500+ new leads monthly.

Overlead▲146Here's the problem: I launched two products. I wrote blog posts. I posted on X, built in public. I tried running ads. And you know what actually got me customers? Replying to someone on Reddit who asked, "What's the best tool for this?" One reply. Three signups. I felt like an idiot for not doing it sooner. But here's the issue: I don't have time to refresh Reddit all day looking for these posts. I have products to build. Bugs to fix. Emails to answer. Life to live. So I built Overlead to do the searching for me. Overlead scans Reddit, Quora, and Hacker News (and many more to come) for…

Everyone’s chasing AI hype. I built a Google Sheet and it quietly took off. In 2020, I made it to track my own finances for income, expenses, savings, yearly summaries etc. I shared it once on Reddit, forgot about it for a year… When I checked back, it had over 130k views and I was honestly stoked! No launch. No funding. No AI. Just a spreadsheet people actually stick with and find useful. I finally gave it a proper home: write-it-down.com Now, more than 2,300 people use it. It’s intentionally boring and that’s why it works. People don’t always need AI. They just need something that actually…

21st Fund▲151I built this after struggling to find relevant grants and fellowships myself. The project started at the EF Hackathon as a credit underwriting and matching agent for founders. After speaking with founders and students, it became clear that discovery itself was the bigger problem. Most people do not know what grants or non-dilutive options exist for them. So I iterated and built 21st.fund. You describe who you are and what you are building, and the tool surfaces relevant grants, fellowships, and programs. The goal is to reduce time spent digging through scattered government sites, PDFs, and…

Student debt is troubling so many recent graduates that we decided to graduate debt-free from the university. We launched FundingFyre - a database of startup pitch decks, pitch videos and investment memos… all together 1,500+ items. You can filter the resources by funding round, size, etc. Many of you might be raising Seed or Series-A funding and these resources would be immensely helpful. We kept it a paid service to earn enough to pay our tuition fees and cover living expenses. But for the HackerNews community, we have a 50% discount, please use code “HN2022”. We’re four students (Grade 12…

Find My Moat▲12I kept losing track of all the random tools i use for investing research; from screeners to niche data sites. so i started collecting them in one place: findmymoat.com. it’s just a simple directory right now, but the idea is to make it easier to discover and compare tools (fundamental, quant, options, whatever). curious if others find this useful, and if you have favorite tools i should add.

It’s pretty simple: ask us absolutely anything about your finances (it’s okay to be really specific to your situation!) and our algorithm backed by a Certified Financial Planner will give you a hyper-personalized spot-on answer, for free. Go ahead and stump us! Let’s really kick the tires on this thing :) Up until now, we've been doing comprehensive financial advising for free. Our most popular feature is the ability to just ask us anything so we figured why not make that feature available for everyone? Also for free :) Some more context: Uprise’s mission is to make wealth…

Hey HN, I’m a solopreneur and have been in the SaaS space for the past 3 years. My last 3 startups failed, and a common challenge in all of them was figuring out how to reach my audience. Recently I started with cold outreach (its a struggle, since I dont have much experience with marketing). I am finding leads mainly using exa.ai websets (web vector search, extremelly good for multiple use cases, recommend checking them out) and then sending them through smartlead. I ran the campaign for the past 30 days and 12-15% emails always bounced. This wasted my email credits & chances of reaching…

I was a software engineer at a late stage startup and was caught in a layoff this January. When I looked into exercising my options or getting liquidity, I realized the secondary market is a total black box. Liquidity funds spend a fortune on Google Ads just to find people like us. Those high marketing costs eventually come out of our pockets in the form of higher fees and worse terms. I built StrikeRates to change that. The site is meant to be a central resource for anyone navigating this. I included a Liquidity 101 section that explains the different financial vehicles because that…

I used to work in VC and watched good teams lose months chasing the wrong investors. I’m building Evalyze to make the unglamorous parts faster and more precise. After sign-up (email only, no card) you can: - upload a deck or paste your site - get a ranked list of relevant VCs/angels with a short “why” for each What’s different: instead of dumping a big list, we try to explain why an investor fits based on stage, sector, check size, and portfolio patterns. It’s far from perfect and we want blunt feedback before opening wider. Limits to know: - newer funds and emerging managers can be…

During my fundraise, I had 6 Calendly links I was managing actively. My goals were: 1. Investors should always find links comfortable to their timezone 2. They should not see full day slots thinking I am free throughout the day ( wrong sign ) 3. So I had to manage multiple calendly for every timezone and opening slots - when one close. I really wished someone would have given me power to add all these things just as agent instructions for AI to decide - and we did it now. buxo.ai for everyone.

Hi HN, Over the years I kept running into the same problem founders talk about constantly: finding the right investors is surprisingly difficult. Most tools are either extremely expensive (think $5k–$10k+/yr), focused on later-stage VCs, or filled with outdated contact info. Meanwhile early-stage founders still spend weeks digging through Twitter, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, spreadsheets, and random blog posts just trying to build a seed list. So I built AngelBacked. AngelBacked is a searchable database of 90,000+ angels and venture capital investors designed to make early-stage fundraising…

After getting a lot of feedback on my project FinanceLinx.com, which helps startups and growing businesses with finding grants and government backed loans, I've decided to make some of the information public. If you go to the site now, there's an option to request a sample of the financing data. Please let me know how I can improve this, any constructive feedback is welcome!

I hacked this together last week; it’s still very experimental. The goal is simple: help founders prioritize outreach by surfacing investors who’ve recently raised funds (i.e., have capital to deploy). Right now we diff recent EDGAR/Form D filings and public announcements, normalize to a Postgres schema (fund → check size, stage, sector, geo, contacts), and do light entity resolution for aliases/shells. Expect gaps and false positives while we iterate. Grants: today we’re only pulling federal sources (SBIR/STTR, Grants.gov). The roadmap is to add state, county, and municipal…

I was with BOFA and Chase Private Client for years before I realized that they were making tons of interest off my money and just keeping it for themselves. The funny thing is that since I had a lot of money with them they raised my rate as a thank you to wait for it 0.02% instead of 0.01% lol. Got upset because of this and made this site. It scrapes all the banks every 30 minutes so it is the most real time source of APY data on the internet. Rates are now over 3% at the high end so it makes sense to park your money in these places rather than the big three banks.
