Products that do what Maps and Splats – Mashup of 3D tile maps with Gaussian Splats does

Hello HN! I’m excited to share this open-source community mashup showing the power and possibility of combining 3D Gaussian splat scans with traditional mesh-based 3D tiles maps in the browser. As you've probably seen on HN a bunch lately, Gaussian splats are a new method to allow custom 3D scans of scenes and objects [1] and Google Maps 3D Tiles API are the same 3D buildings and street views your familiar with in Google Earth or Google Maps, and recently they’ve been made available for inclusion in web apps. Combining splats + 3d map mixes highly detailed real-world custom micro-scans with…

I'm the co-creator and maintainer of https://aframe.io/ and long time Web 3D graphics dev. Super excited about new techniques to author / render / represent 3D. Spark is a an open source library to easily integrate Gaussian splats in your THREE.js scene I worked with some friends and I hope you find useful. Looking forward to hearing what features / rendering techniques you would love to see next.

I just launched SplatGallery, a platform where you can share and discover the best 3D models created with Gaussian Splatting. It's a super early stage and new models are coming it fairly often. Would love to get feedback from the HN community on how to improve it!

Google released an API in May to get fetch 3D Tiles of anywhere on Earth. Using this in standard 3D engines like Blender is tricky because (1) the tiles are in a geographic coordinate system (2) you get a lot of little tiles at varying quality levels I wanted to simplify this so all you need to do is get an API key, select a map region and a zoom level, and get one combined glTF file that you can throw into any engine. Especially if you're just prototyping and want to see how this data looks in your engine before investing in figuring out all the nuances of the API & coordinate system. (Note…

LiveSplat is a system for turning RGBD camera streams into Gaussian splat scenes in real-time. The system works by passing all the RGBD frames into a feed forward neural net that outputs the current scene as Gaussian splats. These splats are then rendered in real-time. I've put together a demo video at the link above.

Hello HN! We’re a small creative studio specializing in real-time 3D experiences. Netlify approached us to design and build an interactive experience to celebrate reaching 5 million developers. Inspired by the classic game Marble Madness, we created a gamified experience where users control a ball through playful, interactive levels. The goal was to blend marketing content with the look and feel of a game to engage users. The app is built with Three.js [1], using our custom render pipeline and shaders, and uses Rapier for physics simulation [2]. The 2D content is overlaid on the WebGL view…

I've been working on this project for about 4 years. It began as terrain only because world wide elevation data was publicly available. I then added buildings from OpenStreetMap (crowd sourced) and more recently from Overture Maps data. Some computer vision/machine learning advancements [1] in the past few years have made it possible to estimate tree canopy heights using satellite imagery alone making it possible to finally add trees to the map. The data isn't perfect, but it's within +/- 3 meters of so. Good enough to give a general idea for any location on Earth. Happy to answer…

Hello HN! I'm the author of this toy project that combines the idea of live-edit Shadertoy scenes with the popular gaussian splatting, aka 3DGS. You can write a GLSL function that defines the splats and see it rendered in real-time. Your GLSL code isn't stored anywhere, but you can share it via URL. P.S. I'm not a Spark developer. I'm just using their rendering engine.

I was playing with this for a few weeks over the holiday break. This is one of the GS3D sample scenes running on PCVR at about 65 FPS. I'm sorting on the CPU at the moment, so there are some hitches, but it works! I may publish this as a Unity asset. (I'd love to get it working on Vision Pro, but we'll see.)

Last week I wanted to quickly view some Gaussian splats which I had trained on a remote server that didn’t have any open ports or a display device. So I ended up downloading everything locally just to inspect the results This weekend I put together a terminal-based Gaussian splats viewer that renders directly in the terminal. It works over SSH and currently runs on CPU only and written in rust with claude code. I’ve found it to be pretty useful for quickly checking which .ply files correspond to which scenes and getting a rough sense of their quality. Along the way, I also wrote a small…

I made a web app to generate 3D models of real places on earth from land cover and elevation data. Click anywhere on the map to get a polygon, and then click "generate". It should work at most scales, but if your watershed or region selection is too large, the result can be less exciting because it's so flat. As a warning, the 3D models can sometimes be too much for my phone. It's nicer on desktop. I'm still working better on mobile support. The land cover data I'm using gives a cool effect, but at some point I'd like to add in global imagery and clouds. The backend is a Python thread…
