24 alternatives to Rgpu – a PyTorch device whose tensors live on a remote GPU
Keep Python on your laptop. Run PyTorch operations and hold tensors on a remote GPU, including from a Mac with no CUDA installation. - ymcrcat/rgpu
Rgpu is a PyTorch device that allows users to keep Python running locally while executing PyTorch operations and storing tensors on a remote GPU. It works across different machines, including Macs without CUDA… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

I integrated a remote GPU execution backend into PyTorch through the same system that custom hardware accelerators get integrated into PyTorch. You can create a remote machine and obtain its CUDA device whenever you want to create or move tensors onto the remote GPU. machine = mycelya_torch.RemoteMachine("modal", "A100") cuda_device = machine.device("cuda") x = torch.randn(1000, 1000, device=cuda_device) y = torch.randn(1000, 1000).to(cuda_device) I made it reasonably performant by having most operations dispatch asynchronously whenever possible. For cases where slow performance is…

Creator here. I built ChartGPU because I kept hitting the same wall: charting libraries that claim to be "fast" but choke past 100K data points. The core insight: Canvas2D is fundamentally CPU-bound. Even WebGL chart libraries still do most computation on the CPU. So I moved everything to the GPU via WebGPU: - LTTB downsampling runs as a compute shader - Hit-testing for tooltips/hover is GPU-accelerated - Rendering uses instanced draws (one draw call per series) The result: 1M points at 60fps with smooth zoom/pan. Live demo:…

CUDA is NVIDIA's language for GPU programming, allowing you to mix write CPU and GPU code in C++ in one file. By chaining a few projects that compile CUDA to OpenCL, then Vulkan, then WebGPU, you can experiment with this GPGPU language on any hardware.

Hi HN, Over the past few months, I've been building `dsc`, a tensor library from scratch in C++/CUDA. My main focus has been on getting the basics right, prioritizing a clean API, simplicity, and clear observability for running small LLMs locally. The key features are: - C++ core with CUDA support written from scratch. - A familiar, PyTorch-like Python API. - Runs real models: it's complete enough to load a model like Qwen from HuggingFace and run inference on both CUDA and CPU with a single line change[1]. - Simple, built-in observability for both Python and C++. Next on the roadmap is…

Back in the old days, people used to do general-purpose GPU programming by using shaders like GLSL. This is what inspired NVIDIA (and other companies) to eventually create CUDA (and friends). This is an implementation of GPT-2 using WebGL and shaders. Enjoy!

I ported Microsoft's TRELLIS.2 (4B parameter image-to-3D model) to run on Apple Silicon via PyTorch MPS. The original requires CUDA with flash_attn, nvdiffrast, and custom sparse convolution kernels: none of which work on Mac. I replaced the CUDA-specific ops with pure-PyTorch alternatives: a gather-scatter sparse 3D convolution, SDPA attention for sparse transformers, and a Python-based mesh extraction replacing CUDA hashmap operations. Total changes are a few hundred lines across 9 files. Generates ~400K vertex meshes from single photos in about 3.5 minutes on M4 Pro (24GB). Not as fast as…

This started out as a personal effort to learn more about machine learning. It's currently a CLI app where you give it a JSON file specifying your network architecture and hyperparameters and point it to your training data, then invoke it again in 'eval' mode with some data it's not seen before and it will try to classify each sample. I don't see many other people using Vulkan for GPGPU, and there may be many good reasons for that, but I wanted to try something a bit different. I've made every attempt to make the code very clean and readable and I've written up the math in…

Grant Sanderson (3Blue1Brown) created Manim, the Python library he uses to make the math animations in his videos. We reimplemented Manim with the same Python API, but the implementation underneath is Rust, connected to Python through PyO3. The Rust code uses wgpu, so rendering happens on the GPU. To run it in the browser, we compiled the Rust parts to WebAssembly so the PyO3 extension loads in Pyodide. In the browser, wgpu targets the WebGPU API, so animations render in real time on your GPU through the browser. The editor is Monaco (the editor that powers VS Code) with a live preview:…

Hi HN, We’re a small team of OS, virtualization, and ML engineers, and after three years of development, we’re thrilled to launch the beta of our CUDA abstraction layer! We decouple the Kernel Shader execution from applications that use CUDA into a Wooly Abstraction layer. In this abstraction layer, we compile these to a new binary, and Shaders are compiled into a Wooly Instruction Set. At runtime, Kernel Shader launch events initiate a transfer of Shader over the network from a CPU host to a GPU host, where they are recompiled. Their execution is managed by Wooly Server software to achieve…

Recently I was inspired by exe.dev to finally finish a project I'd been procrastinating on for half a year. You can simply `ssh gpu.st new` and instantly create instances with a variety of GPUs attached. Instances boot a custom image with PyTorch, Jupyter, and the CUDA toolkit installed by default. Currently we give access to 3090s and 4090s for free users; paid users get access to all GPUs.

Tabs, splits, and tmux work fine until you have several projects open with logs, tests, and long-running shells. I kept rebuilding context instead of resuming work. Horizon puts shells on an infinite canvas. You can arrange them into workspaces and reopen later with layout, scrollback, and history intact. Built in 3 days with Claude/Codex, dogfooding the workflow as I went. Feedback and contributions welcome.
