Products that do what See live changes to Open Street Map in a relaxing musical way does

Just a fun little map viz that pulls OSM changesets from https://planet.openstreetmap.org and plots them on a map. I paired the plotting of points to some relaxing chords just for fun and found I had created something sort of relaxing. Enjoy :)

Hi HN, I built a little tool to help me get better at remembering country locations on the map: https://learn-worldmap.netlify.app/ It's made from plain HTML/CSS/JS, and not intended to make any money or anything. Just thought that maybe someone else may enjoy it. Also of course happy about any feedback! Cheerz.

I just redesigned an old (1 year) project and would appreciate any feedback. The site has no real purpose other than allowing you to explore the large amount of imagery gathered by Google. You can make it less random by choosing a country, or indeed any geographical area (cities etc.) http://www.mapcrunch.com Thanks

I love culture + travel, and one of my favorite pastimes is dropping into random streets on Google Street View. I just LOVE getting a tiny snippet into how people live, the architecture, and discovering hidden corners of places I'll probably never visit. I'm kinda weird like that. When AI came along, I started asking it to explain what I was looking at - and I learned a ton. I couldn't stop using this combo. So I built Streetwhip. It's kinda like reverse Geoguessr - instead of guessing where you are, you get educated about places as if you had a smart local guide with you. What used to be…

The idea is simple: click any place on the map, propose a name, others vote, or it will be auto-accepted in ~5min. No account needed for fresh locations or name duel - only to challenge already-renamed places or vote to prevent abuse. 40k renames so far, and surprisingly people mostly behave. Some names are genuinely creative and I keep learning random geography facts just by watching the map (did you know someone mapped every single animal in a Taiwan Kaohsiung zoo on OpenStreetMap?) Non-commercial, just a side project. Stack is SvelteKit, MapLibre, 40GB vector map self-hosted on Cloudflare…

I used to watch hundreds of hours of lofi beats on youtube while I was coding, but I got really sick of all the ads. I decided to build a better alternative - It's a configurable space for you to hang out online while you work, with a ton of relaxing music and backgrounds. Its got useful tools built in like a timer to keep track of how long you've been locked in, and a notepad for todos or scribbling down ideas while you work. Honestly this is the first tool I've built that I personally use every day, so I'm hoping some of you out there can get some use out of it too!

Im working on a mind mapping app that would allow for integration of gamification features and be nicer and easier to remember. I was missing more advanced graphics from apps and being able to treat it as my note taking and learning tool. i.e. how (and why?) should I remember a mind map if it looks the same like all other maps and all i can do is pick couple of shapes and dashed/dotted lines? this simply doesnt work with my brain so i decided to create something better :) map on page is a preview of this, but im curious about the quiz, typing games and cheatsheet, would love some…

Hey HN! I wanted to know what was going on in cities/towns where my friends live, so I built Needle. It uses an LLM + Open Street map to best estimate general locations of stories posted in the past day, and pin them on the map. For stories involving multiple places, I also wanted to show the relation between them. It's still a little janky, and is limited to mostly Canadian sources of news at the moment, but I'm planning on expanding it shortly, as I'm keen to see what international sources are writing about my home city. Let me know if you have any questions/feedback!

StreetComplete is an OpenStreetMap[0] editor directed at people who want to contribute and want to do this using their smartphone, without learning how to edit things[1]. It is available as an Android application. It is intended to be used as one walks, with quests appearing as markers on the map. Selecting a marker allows one to answer a simple question. The answer will be added to the OpenStreetMap database, with app handling selecting objects for editing, transforming answer into OSM tags and making edits. OpenStreetMap account is needed to apply edits, but it is possible to start without…
