Heya! Not the usual sort of thing to be posted here, but I wanted to show off what I made yesterday. Here's a sample page about H1-B visas issued in Bogota: The code is source-available (not open source) at . It's my first time choosing a source-available license over MIT, mainly out of fear of existing immigration startups just gobbling this data and code up; frankly I didn't think the implications through though, I just threw a safe license on there. The way the project works is: - Use requests-html to find publicly available PDFs from government pages - Use camelot to OCR the PDFs and…

Hey HN! I’m excited to introduce Companero, my open-source ridesharing solution! As a traveler, I often struggled to find rides in smaller cities. So I built Companero on Telegram using pure Java 21 and MongoDB. I recently added a rating system to this app to make rides safer, but all in all, you can request a ride using your location, can see recommended trip price based on your country (it has an index for each country and a currency converter) and much more features. I’d love your feedback and any questions are welcome! Thanks!

Hi HN, I’m the creator of Alarms.Global, a free tool I built while working in logistics. I was constantly juggling scattered holiday calendars and scanning local news to figure out why shipments were delayed. What it does: Tracks public holidays in 190+ countries (so you know when offices, ports, and customs are closed) Aggregates real-time transport disruptions (strikes, port congestion, weather issues, etc.) Shows everything on a filterable world map Works in 14 languages The idea was to create a single open platform to see what might stop goods from moving today. Tech: It’s built with…

I've always dreamed about a project like that when looking at status boards at other companies. We finally had the time to do our own. Here are some photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/robert_olejnik/sets/72157633736087905/ The stack: Django, mustache.js, Chart.js, Bootstrap and custom Supybot plugin. Maybe will be inspiration for someone else ;-) Do you guys have similar status boards? Cheers, Robert.

Hi HN, https://companies.bx.tc My colleague and I put together this tool for easily searching UK company data. We run a few server side batches daily to extract data from various government sources before linking it all together in (what is now) a fairly large database. We're also using this project as a way to test out a new JS UI library we built (similar to Vue, but a bit faster) to see how it stands up in a real project. We'd love to hear your feedback and any ideas you have for how we can improve the dashboard! Thanks :)

Hi HN! In the last couple of weeks I've been working on Cranki: Cranki = Crosswords + Anki. (It's a stupid name tbh, haha) I like doing crosswords in Spanish (to learn vocab) but none of the apps out there allowed me to use my own list of words that I come across. So I built one instead. It's entirely client-side. No server, no database, no accounts, etc. Your words and stats are stored in local storage. I built this for myself but let me know if you like it!

Inspired by thispersondoesnotexist.com, I built thistouristdoesnotexist.com, a lightweight weekend project that generates a new “synthetic tourist at a real landmark” on each refresh while keeping identity cues consistent across scenes, driven here by Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (aka Nano Banana). It runs on a tiny DigitalOcean droplet with a simple pipeline that pairs batches of synthetic faces with a curated landmark list and tries to avoid reusing the same face–place combo. I would love feedback on failure cases, hope you like it!

I built https://www.Bonvago.com in my spare time as a friendlier alternative to other hotel booking engines. Slow dev server, no VC cash, no hype—just me + caffeine, so thanks for your patience. Every “painfully’ slow search helps improve speed. What it does: - Unlocks hidden rates (AAA, Costco, double points, etc.) - Summarizes hotel reviews using AI so you don’t have to doomscroll. - Gives you BONV points (aka tokens you can spend on hotel bookings). - Travel agents get 10% commissions (most OTAs give you like... 6%) Up Next (maybe): Flights, rental cars, tours, cruises—and an AI…

Hey! I just launched TimeSlate.app — a completely free web app to help students stay focused and organized with zero friction. No accounts, no ads, no subscription What it does: - Pomodoro Timer - Task Manager – Tag tasks by subject, assign priorities, track progress. - Subjects - Revision Timetable – Block out your day visually with subject-based time blocks. - Dashboard – See time spent, tasks completed, Pomodoros per subject/day. It’s built for students, self-learners, or really anyone trying to structure deep work time without distractions. Why I made this: Every productivity app I…

I’ve always wanted to localize my personal apps, but I found it to be too expensive. Since many apps share the same vocabulary (News Feed, Dashboard, Forgot Password, Take Photo), it seemed silly to pay to translate words that some other development team must have previously paid to translate. So, I’ve created an open-source translation memory for all iOS developers to benefit from. I processed over 500K GitHub iOS projects, AppleGlot, and other open-source resources and created a database of almost 15 million translations. Check it out here:…

Hi HN! I've just published my small home dashboard project on Github. Hope you like it too and perhaps find it useful as a reference for similar ideas. Overall I'm very happy with the LilyGo e-ink device and I'll probably add a bunch of other features in the future.

As I couldn't find a proper web based open source tool that could help me with my bookkeeping, I spend a week to built one myself. It's based on laravel and provides revenue, expenses, travel allowance and depreciation sections. Everything is then merged to an annual statement, that can be exported as a pdf and used for tax filing. It's far away from perfect (no tests yet), but I would be happy to hear what you think about it and maybe find someone to join in.

Hello! For the last year I've been working on a side project, a booking management system. Among others, it allows anyone who owns a business that accepts bookings to manage them, to communicate with customers, to easily create a personalized website or to embed a calendar widget on any existing website. Link: https://www.planorio.com There is still a long way to go, but I feel that now it is ready for some very direct feedback. :) It mainly consists of an Angular frontend, a backend written in Node.js and some small tools written in PHP and Kotlin. I also created a hybrid mobile…
