Hey HN! I’m excited to introduce Companero, my open-source ridesharing solution! As a traveler, I often struggled to find rides in smaller cities. So I built Companero on Telegram using pure Java 21 and MongoDB. I recently added a rating system to this app to make rides safer, but all in all, you can request a ride using your location, can see recommended trip price based on your country (it has an index for each country and a currency converter) and much more features. Hi HN, https://companies.bx.tc My colleague and I put together this tool for easily searching UK company data. We run a few server side batches daily to extract data from various government sources before linking it all together in (what is now) a fairly large database. We're also using this project as a way to test out a new JS UI library we built (similar to Vue, but a bit faster) to see how it stands up in a real project. Hi HN! In the last couple of weeks I've been working on Cranki: Cranki = Crosswords + Anki. (It's a stupid name tbh, haha) I like doing crosswords in Spanish (to learn vocab) but none of the apps out there allowed me to use my own list of words that I come across. So I built one instead. It's entirely client-side. No server, no database, no accounts, etc. Your words and stats are stored in local storage. I built this for myself but let me know if you like it!

Inspired by thispersondoesnotexist.com, I built thistouristdoesnotexist.com, a lightweight weekend project that generates a new “synthetic tourist at a real landmark” on each refresh while keeping identity cues consistent across scenes, driven here by Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (aka Nano Banana). It runs on a tiny DigitalOcean droplet with a simple pipeline that pairs batches of synthetic faces with a curated landmark list and tries to avoid reusing the same face–place combo. I’ve always wanted to localize my personal apps, but I found it to be too expensive. Since many apps share the same vocabulary (News Feed, Dashboard, Forgot Password, Take Photo), it seemed silly to pay to translate words that some other development team must have previously paid to translate. So, I’ve created an open-source translation memory for all iOS developers to benefit from. As I couldn't find a proper web based open source tool that could help me with my bookkeeping, I spend a week to built one myself. It's based on laravel and provides revenue, expenses, travel allowance and depreciation sections. Everything is then merged to an annual statement, that can be exported as a pdf and used for tax filing. It's far away from perfect (no tests yet), but I would be happy to hear what you think about it and maybe find someone to join in.
