24 alternatives to Cute Magick

Hi! I built Cute Magick because I wanted the simplicity & power of early web dev, but not the fragility. It's an open source, self-hostable web host where your sites are plain folders of real code — HTML, PHP, Python, Node, Lua, SQL — and every file save creates a snapshot you can preview and rewind in one click. No build steps, no abstractions. (Literally -- these are per-request runtimes). I'm Rufus, one of the founders of Flowershow. We love markdown and use it everywhere from making websites, to docs, to knowledgebases. Plus AI splits it everywhere now. Got tired of the framework/config/deploy overhead every time we wanted to share a file or put a site online. So we built the thing we wanted. Files in. Website out. "Vercel for Content" is our aspiration - make deploying (markdown) content as fast, seamless and easy as Vercel did for JS. Command line plus you can connect to github repos, use Obsidian via plugin, or drag and drop files. npm i -g…

Hi HN! I’m the creator of Gridfy. I built it because I was frustrated with what I call the "No-Code Tax." Whenever I wanted to publish structured data from Airtable or Notion, I felt trapped between two bad options: spending hours writing custom frontend code, or paying for expensive subscriptions like Softr or Airtable’s premium embeds. Most of these platforms get pricey fast and the customization is often too limited to match a professional brand. I wanted something in the middle: the speed of no-code but with the flexibility of a custom component. With Gridfy, you connect your data source…

An experiment with maze generation, started off in Rust, then ported to js to make it a web-app. The algorithm, code and setup aims to make it simple - and as always, simple turned out hard ;). The "about" dialog has some more information on choices made, tech used, inspiration and backgrounds. Most important, for a tech crowd, I guess is: - it uses p5.js - I generally prefer just vanilla js and canvas for my generative art projects, but here I wanted to focus on the outcome, not the tooling. - uses seedrandom with the name of you and your valentine as seed. So a unique, but reproducible…

Hi HN, After trying to teach a non-technical friend how to manage a Jekyll site I decided there must be a way to make building a site with a SSG easier. Options like Decap, Contentful etc. do make it a bit easier but still take lots of tech knowledge to set up. So I built Sparktype, a browser-based CMS that outputs statically-generated HTML and CSS. My goal is for it to be as easy to use as Substack or Medium, while providing all the benefits of a static site generator including openness, simplicity, speed, security and ownership. It handles most things that you'd need from a CMS, including…

Hello HN, I'm Karan, and after a hack wiped out my blog and revenue ($15-20k/month), I was propelled to create Grigora.co. Our beta platform is designed to be a secure, straightforward alternative to WordPress, addressing the pain points I faced as a blogger. With 165 users exploring Grigora and zero paid customers so far, we're eager to evolve. We invite the HN community to test Grigora.co, share feedback, and join us in this mission to streamline web security and functionality. Looking forward to your insights, Karan

Hi HN, I’ve been working on an AI-powered website builder that allows anyone to create a fully functional website in just a few minutes. No coding, no design skills—just a simple, intuitive process with AI handling the heavy lifting. Here’s what you can do with it: • Create a website by entering a name, description, and subdomain. • Use AI to design the site, customize content, and edit sections with simple prompts. • Preview, tweak, and publish your website live instantly. • Download the code for full flexibility if you want to self-host or integrate. It’s still an MVP, and I’ve got lots of…

First, I'm by no mean a programmer. Second, I am reading HN for years, just registered to make this public and see if it can be useful for someone. I have nothing to gain monetary. A while ago, I decided that no blogging system was simple enough and I looked for a small wiki to use as a CMS/blog. Found WikWiki on C2.com and I mixed it with some basic Markdown syntax, a minimal template and added password protection. The result is a single php file, no database and no dependencies. Code is a mess, not modulable, probably wrong in so many ways, but it can probably used by some as personal…

Merry Christmas HN! Tinykit is a self-hosted, self-contained alternative to Lovable/Replit/v0 designed for building small personal utility and CRUD apps (basically a "tiny app studio”). It includes realtime/auth/files (via PocketBase), an embedded dev environment, content and design fields, automated backups, and an AI agent that can work across all of them. You can connect multiple domain names (or better, a wildcard subdomain) to build and deploy 100+ apps on the same server, each hosted at its own domain name. The builder/studio runs on the same Pocketbase…

I built GetPost because I miss the simplicity of just SCPing files to a personal server, but I do not miss the maintenance burden. It's a pastebin/imagebin that runs on Cloudflare Workers with zero ongoing costs and zero maintenance. Key features: - Deploy in 5 minutes, runs free forever (100k reads, 1k uploads daily on CF free tier) - No complex toolchain - no NPM, no wrangler - just curl, python3, and a simple build script - Handles text, markdown (server-rendered), images, any file type up to 10MB - ULID-based access control with separate delete keys An interesting technical bit:…

Hey HN, I've been wanting to start this project for a long time, ever since I read an article about collaborative transformation of blob images[1], and I'm hoping it will take off here as I'm curious to see how it can grow. Here's how it works: - My website is available at https://chaospixels.com. You can find its code in the `src` directory of the linked repository. - Every day, I'll review all the open PRs (Pull Requests) and calculate a PR score based on the number of thumbs-up on the PR's opening comment. - The PR with the highest score will be merged and deployed. - Afterward,…

I built it for myself because ngrok didn't let me add one more domain unless I paid $12 more. I probably should've looked for alternatives before building my own, but my grudge got in the way . Once I started, I wanted to make it better than the other options. Silly, I know. No one probably cares. I plan to open source it sometime next year because I’ve got other projects to finish first. It's free until I deplete my cloud credits, then it will switch to a tier-based model with a free option.
