I was going through my app subscriptions and realized I was paying $15 for a pretty good workout app, which seemed a bit high to me. As a software engineer who is also well versed in claude code, I realized that I could likely vibecode a very similar app, or even build something more to my liking. As an ex-editor, I think chatGPT is overlooked as an editor with everyone jumping straight into writing. Editing is essentially giving it as comprehensive a writing prompt as possible. I've always used to-do lists to keep me productive and stave off anxiety (not sure why they work so well for me but they do). I've always been frustrated with the complexity of todo mobile apps. I use Todoist and Notion to manage my work, for instance, but every time I'm out and about and think of a task I need to capture, the mobile apps feel too complex. Or I might think of a feature to add to a product, but don't want to deal with Linear's mobile web view. So, I built Defer: a simple iOS "capture" app that syncs to your menu bar on your Mac. No signup needed, it all "just works" with your Apple ID. Intentionally simple and lightweight.
