24 alternatives to I built a tiny-VPS friendly RSS aggregator and reader
Hi, folks. As an RSS user, I tried Inoreader and Feedly, then ended up self-hosting a Miniflux instance on my homelab. A few months ago, I moved to another city and had to shut down my homelab for a long time, so I couldn't access my local miniflux. It was quite inconvenient. I decided to self-host my RSS aggregator on a tiny VPS or PaaS such as fly.io. However, Miniflux requires a PostgreSQL database, which may isn't suitable for a tiny VPS instance. So I built fusion with Golang and SQLite. It contains basic features such as Group, Bookmark, Search, Automatically feeds sniffing,…
Fusion is a lightweight RSS aggregator and reader built with Golang and SQLite, designed to run efficiently on small VPS instances and low-resource environments. It offers core RSS features including feed grouping… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes. Alternative search engines are neat, as are RSS feeds. OpenOrb is a self-hosted app which allows visitors to search over a list of blogs you love. If you put your 10 favourite blogs in there, it'll search just those blogs and not show you any sponsored content or machine-generated garbage (unless... you follow blogs written by machines?) Personal RSS feed readers can usually do this sort of thing, but RSS readers aren’t meant to be shared, so you can think of the search engine as a 'curated feed list as a public service'. I wrote a longer blog post about OpenOrb here:…

Hi all! Excited to share rss2newsletter after completing dev work for the initial release. The idea for this project came out of necessity, as I wanted to share my articles via email newsletter. I was looking for a super minimal, lightweight, and open source solution, and when none existed, I decided to create one. For any sizable number of email recipients, a popular platform like Mailchimp will easily cost you hundreds or even thousands per month in per-contact fees. rss2newsletter, on the other hand, allows you to use Amazon SES, so you can reach your audience at pennies on the dollar.…

Howdy! RSSfeedASAP scratches my own itch. I run a regional podcasting directory which gets dozens of messy submission for podcasts. Often they don't even include an xml file and me being a good samaritan I sometimes do the manual work and find it myself. I got tired of that manual work and decided to build a microapp. RSSfeedASAP is this app and I decided to release it in case someone else finds any use in it.

Hey Hacker News, miniflux-cli developer here. I use miniflux as primary source of things to read (including hacker news, of course), but in my case I don't have stable internet connection most of the time, so I did offline-first console client for miniflux, check it out: https://sr.ht/~xn/miniflux-cli/ It syncs all feeds and entries on start and after that you can read all the content offline (including "mark as read"/"mark as unread"). The project built on go, using bbolt db, tview and official miniflux api client. Some neat features - you can set text and…

In the last few weeks I've been working on a RSS application designed to be used in e-ink devices such as Kindle, through the device's web browser. It's a self-hostable app optimized for running on low-end hardware (such as Raspberry Pi, I actually run it on a 3b model). The project is in its early stages of development. It is usable, but you may (and probably will :P) encounter bugs from time to time. I did it for myself (I like to read at night before going to sleep but I don't like to use my phone at that time). I thought people could find it useful so I worked on it a little bit more to…

Well, I certainly tried. I had to, because it has a certain quirk inspired by "digital minimalism." The quirk is that it only allows you to fetch new articles once per day (or X days). Why? Let me explain... I want my internet content to be like a boring newspaper. You get it in the morning, and you read the whole thing while sipping your morning coffee, and then you're done! No more new information for today. No pings, no alerts, peace, quiet, zen, etc. But with that, I needed it to be able to fetch all articles from my hundreds of feeds in one sitting. This is where Zig and curl…

hey yall, I made bearclaw because I just wanted an unopinionated static site generator with no toolchain and fancy stuff going on; it'd be my pleasure to show it to you today and answer any questions you might have. If you do end up trying out bearclaw, you can use nginx or your favorite webserver. Earlier this week I made eclaire - a static site webserver with compression, caching, and automatic HTTPS through letsencrypt. https://github.com/donuts-are-good/eclaire

This project started because I wanted to consume my RSS/Atoms feeds the same way I consume news on HN: a lightweight webpage with a minimalist user interface where I can comfortably browse interesting links. I didn't like existing solutions for feeds reader. Many of them seemed overly complex, most of them require a database and don't event support sqlite. For a simple feed reader, it felt overkill. What I wanted was an easy setup that didn't rely on external databases or configurations. My solution was to build a small CLI tool that print an HTML page from a list of feed URLs. I can…

Hi everyone, I built a tool a few years ago called RSS Lookup(https://www.rsslookup.com/) and recently made a few UI and feed detection updates to it. It's free, and allows you to paste any website URL and it automatically searches for feeds via meta tags, fallback paths, and hardcoded feeds for some popular sites. It's also open-source(https://github.com/mratmeyer/rsslookup), has no ads, and doesn't track any URLs(uses Cloudflare Turnstile for abuse and Plausible for analytics). Max
