RomM is a self-hosted app that allows you to manage your retro game files (ROMs) and play them in the browser. Think of it as Plex or Jellyfin for your ROM library: it automatically fetches metadata, artwork, and game information from online metadata sources to transform your folders into a browsable collection. You can play games directly in the browser for consoles like the N64, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation 1, using the integrated web emulator (https://emulatorjs.org/). Members of the community have released integrations for Playnite (Windows), muOS…

Still very much a work in progress, but really wanted to share this even in it's early state. Had heaps of fun building it to learn more about WebRTC.

Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster. I've just reached beta in my game BoxByte Lyte. -What is it- It's a free 3d arcade game for hardcore players that uses color matching in interesting ways. Also it's a one button game, well movement and one button. Cool huh? The final release will be free too. -What I need- This is a very challenging game, so I really need to balance the difficulty so that it's still hard but not impossible. It would be great just to hear your experiences of the game and how far in it you got. -Where can I report bugs?-…

So, me (dev) and my friend (designer) have been building a website/mobile app to help users manage their game library (think MyAnimeList, but games) for a little over a year. We launched with a very basic set of features, and have been slowing expanding since then. All the code is open source, and most of the things we implemented were direct feedback from users (e.g. being able to import games from Steam/PSN, and the Posts feature). We don't show ads or have any kind of subscription. This is just a hobby project. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, as honestly the hardest…

After 14 months and probably over 1,000 hours, I'm finally at the point where I feel like I can show off my side project, LANCommander. As the title states, LANCommander is a self-hosted, open source digital distribution platform for PC games. The project started to solve the woes of a regular in-person LAN party that I participate in with some friends. I got tired of spending more time solving technical issues than playing games, so I decided to create a tool to help automate the process. The server application is built as a .NET 8 Blazor application. Database access is implemented with…

Hello everyone! I've finally finished my latest side project - a RPG game made in Blazor. It started as a small project to learn some Blazor (I'm .NET dev but kept mainly to backend and ASP.NET). I had such a good time coding it that at some point I decided to make a full featured game out of it. I might've have bitten off more that I could chew as RPGs have so many systems and elements but overall I think it worked out well, especially for a single person project. I want to hop on the next project soon so any comments/questions/tips than can make me better really appreciated!

It's free and open source. The aim is to have more transparent access to wine prefixes and the surrounding tooling (winetricks, proton configuration, etc...) per game in comparison to Lutris. Same features like statistics (time played, times launched, times crashed, and so on) per game is available in the app.

Last week I launched LANCommander v1.0.0 after about two years of development. LANCommander is an open source digital game distribution platform. In essence, it's a ways to self-host your own game library ala Steam, GOG, Epic, etc. It originally started as a project to automate the distribution of games at a LAN party I co-host. We have about 24 peak players each session and there came a point where trying to get games to work ate more time than we actually spent playing games. The natural conclustion was to write my own launcher and server to distribute files across the network. v1.0.0…

Hi HN! I've been working on developer tools for Blazor that let you inspect Razor components in the browser, similar to React DevTools or Vue DevTools. The problem: Blazor is Microsoft's frontend framework that lets you write web UIs in C#. It's growing fast but lacks the debugging tools other frameworks have. When your component tree gets complex, you're stuck with Console.WriteLine debugging. What I built: A browser extension + NuGet package that: Shows the Razor component tree in your browser Maps DOM elements back to their source components Highlights components on hover Works with both…

I was tired of games like Mafia Wars and wanted a phone-based MMO Strategy game where hundreds of players could actually engage each other on a 2D map, so I made one. I track the state of the game each night so we can display a visual timeline of territory controlled by each alliance. (example: http://bit.ly/q5CFhU) I use jQuery mobile for the front end so it runs on most phones (via Phonegap) as well as modern web browsers. The server side is handled by Java Servlets and MySQL. This started as a hobby - I'm not a developer by training - so I am very interested in feedback, suggestions, and…

I was looking for apps to track my retro game collection and everything looked.... really dated and not great. So I spent the last 5 months making my own. I've made a lot of apps for other people over the years, but this is the first one I've made for myself. iOS and Android. Let me know what you think!

Hey HN, I'm a heavy Obsidian user. I recently got tired of the two usual sync tradeoffs: 1. File-based sync (iCloud/Dropbox/Syncthing) that leaves you waiting for changes to propagate, or hands you a "conflicted copy." 2. Self-hosted setups (like CouchDB) that need touching VMs and dockerized databases to sync markdown. So I built YAOS: a local-first, real-time sync engine for Obsidian. Self-hosting OSS should have better UX. You can deploy the backend to your own Cloudflare account in one click. It fits comfortably in Cloudflare's free tier (costing $0/month for normal…

I’ve spent the last few days prototyping a browser-based game engine stack designed for instant-load, "Roblox-for-Teens" style deployment. The goal is to lower the floor for AA indie devs who want high-fidelity physics and instant web distribution without the overhead of Unity or a heavy Godot export. The Stack Engine: A headless WASM/WebGPU implementation. I’m currently using custom flags and selective streaming to bypass standard browser memory and execution limits. Physics: I’ve ported Jolt (Guerrilla Games) but modified the solver to mimic the original Blam! engine (Bungie/Halo…
