Products that do what Yamanote.fun – A complete soundscape for Tokyo's Yamanote line does
After visiting Japan for the first time a decade ago I became completely enamoured with Tokyo's Yamanote Line railway loop. Particularly the sonic experience of it. Like so many others I fell in love with the charming departure melodies and enjoyed discovering experiences like Yamanot.es (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45045307) here on Hacker News when I returned home. But it wasn't until my second trip to Tokyo that I truly appreciated how much the door chimes, on-board announcements and train noise were contributing to the rich soundscape that I loved. I returned home…

Tokyo Trains▲13Semi inspired by the 3d Shinjuku station that was posted again recently, I noticed it was missing a large portion of the "complex" where "complex" is defined loosly has how far you can walk without stepping outside. So I asked Claude to make a 3d map of all Tokyo Trains, no libraries, and let you zoom into stations, and the first version with both map and the Shinjuku complex was ready in about 3 hours. It spent another 7 or so in various nit picky things I asked for to get to the current version. I know these will only get better but I think the thing I find most interesting is no libraries…

Just a fun little map viz that pulls OSM changesets from https://planet.openstreetmap.org and plots them on a map. I paired the plotting of points to some relaxing chords just for fun and found I had created something sort of relaxing. Enjoy :)

I recently launched my side project I've been building with Meteor js over the past few months. It uses the Soundcloud, Hypemachine, and exfm public APIs to pull in your 'favorite' tracks from each of your usernames provided. It's gives you a unified playlist of all your favorite tracks across the different sites. Audio is being played using the HTML5 Audio API, so it currently only works in Chrome and Safari. Built with: * Meteor JS – http://Meteor.com * Bourbon Sass Mixin Library – http://bourbon.io * Spin.js – http://fgnass.github.io/spin.js/ *…

I have been entranced by Berlin School music for years. I love those evolving and interwoven arpeggios. Latching an arp is often my favorite way to noodle on a synth, and yes it’s because I can’t play to save my life. Last month I got tired of waiting for someone else to build my dream arp machine, so I built my own in the form of a web synth. It is purpose-built for sculpting and performing with melodies. I call it the AM-1 Arpeggio Machine. My next goal is to port the web engine into hardware format (using the Daisy Seed). But in the meantime, since the web app is perfectly usable, I…

As a side project for a hockey manager game, I created a small audio tracker, "HM Tracker," which was used to make the game's music. It is a browser-based tracker-style music workstation. All sound is procedurally generated from oscillators - no samples, no plugins. The UI lets you edit patterns on a step grid, pick instruments and chords, then export as a standalone JS music engine or WAV file. Built with vanilla JS and the Web Audio API (best experienced on a desktop browser). Made in the '90s demoscene spirit (at least the looks, anyway). Would love any feedback!

Hi - I'm part composer, part engineer and big fan of reading blogs where people learn out loud or with the garage door up by sharing their notebooks or journals. I've been doing this in Moleskines for years (going back to the 80s) but made it a new year's in 2024 resolution to post SOMETHING everyday, so long as I created the sound. I have a big archive of demos and seeds of ideas, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to do something with those in the process. Being so steeped in programming for the last 30 years, a healty chunk of this material is made via coding with Csound, TidalCycles, some raw…

It's like a mix between Picross (Nonograms) and Polyominoes. It's a minimalist puzzler which has no text, no tutorials (none required) and no ads set in a relaxing environment. App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/shapeuku-shape-puzzle-game/i... Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dtbgames.s... I have a bulk load of Android promo codes to give away, so if you'd like one let me know! (Sorry iOS users, I have no free codes left!)

Hey y'all, So - the main idea of this is to make a WebAudio synthesis/sequencer tool which humans can use via the UI, but where the big unlock is for agents to drive with MCP It's semi decent as "make a groovy jazz track", especially for retro sounds - but the real use case is more like "make a jetpack whoosh effect I can control via code at runtime - where the sound changes based on character health or how much fuel is left" In other words, the target audience is not musicians (except maybe of the Max/MSP sort), but more like creative coders who want to shape the sound iteratively…

Have you ever played a game or watched a TV show/movie where certain actions like button presses or other events produced different sounds? This is usually done for audience's benefit (more action on screen) or in a game, to enforce the game loop. I wondered if sound effects could be useful in a work environment, in my case `vim`, to influence my brain in a similar way a game loop does things, and make working more "interesting" than procrastination. So I wrote 'chimed', a Python daemon that lets me play sounds on command and added `autocmd` options in `vim` to play sounds when…
