Products that do what Leash, a low-dopamine mobile browser replacement does
Hello! In an attempt to reduce my time spent on screens (and more time in real life), I uninstalled social media from my phone ages ago. The same for email: only on desktop for me. At some point, I discovered that I would, however, not spend that much less time on my phone, but rather 'migrate' to other habits, such as impulse checking of news sites. A mobile browser is like a fridge full of sweets if you're trying to stay on a healthy diet. So I've been living without a mobile browser for a long time: I disabled Safari on my iPhone in parental controls (as you can't delete Safari without…

Hello HN! So early this year I decided to build an iOS browser offering a large range of customization options, to accommodate anyone’s usage and visual preferences. Been using it as my default browser for 6 months and not looking back. On first launch it looks and behaves a bit like Safari, but to give you an idea, here are the various ways I customized it on my phone. - More screen real estate for the webpage, less for the toolbar. - A compact toolbar containing only the buttons for actions I use the most: new tab, close tab, open tab list. Since I use them hundred times a day, I need them…

Hello. I was looking for a simple and clean habit tracker. I went through a few apps but felt they were missing something. I also had some time on my hands, so decided to make my own and share it in case anyone else likes it. Some of the supported features: Streaks based, track and beat your longest streaks Fully useable offline Freezes (similar to Duolingo's streak freezes) Visual map for tracking consistency Pause the app when you need a break or will be away For anyone curious about the tech stack: - React for frontend - Dexie cloud for storage and syncing - Vercel for hosting Link:…

I just launched a new project aimed at helping people to do something fun and creative every day by giving them daily challenges. The goal is to promote habitual creativity by reducing the barrier to content creation and reminding users to keep at it. Everyone can see everyone else's creations and give them some encouragement with a like. When designing Get Creative, I wanted something with a mobile sensibility: badged notifications reminding users to return, a very simple interface, even a predefined viewing size. But I didn't want to dive full in to iOS or Android where testing would be…

This interactive demo explores how a website can load and function while you're in airplane mode — even if you've never visited it before. It requires official Google Chrome and does not work on iOS devices (iPhone/iPad). Spoiler alert: For the best experience, try the demo before reading the explanation below. You can launch it by clicking the post title at the top of this page. The demo uses SXG (Signed Exchanges), a web standard that allows Google to prefetch entire pages from search results. This means that when you click a result, the page can open even if you're offline — because…
