24 alternatives to Zerosum
I've been a YNAB user for years but couldn't justify $109/yr for an app where I never used bank sync. So I built my own. ZeroSum is zero-based budgeting (same envelope method) with a full YNAB import wizard — bring your entire budget history over. 50+ currencies, shared budgets, analytics, keyboard shortcuts. $40/yr. Stack: React (Vite + TanStack Router) on Cloudflare Pages, Hono + tRPC on Render. Happy to talk about the technical decisions. Try it free for 35 days: https://zerosum.so

Hey guys, I built an app that follows the envelope budgeting philosophy like YNAB and with beautiful expense breakdown displayed in sankey, line, bar charts. It also tracks your crypto wallet (BTC & ERC20), bank connections through Plaid and brokerage accounts through SnapTrade. Create unlimited categories, cash/loan/credit accounts and start budgeting at https://buildyourbudget.com/

Ray▲298I've been using this daily for 4 months and figured others might find it useful. This is my first open source project so would love any feedback. Ray connects to your bank via Plaid, stores everything in an encrypted local SQLite database, and lets you ask questions about your finances in natural language. No cloud, no account, your data is stored on your machine. Before anything reaches the LLM, all PII is stripped — your name, companies, transaction details are redacted and replaced with tokens, then rehydrated locally in the response. The AI never sees who you are.

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on a small personal finance tool called Tender for the better part of a year. I got tired of doing expenses by hand - going through several accounts to figure out refunds, subscription cancellations, getting paid back via venmo, etc. I’d get to the point where I’d have to go through months of transactions at a time if I got lazy and fell behind. The workflow in Tender is centered around getting to inbox-zero. Transactions leave the inbox when they’re categorized and there’s a basic rules engine for automation. You can also do things like add notes, set…

My Expenses is a very simple app to track expenses for one-time budgets. Let's say you're going on vacations in Italy and you want to allocate $1.500 to this trip. You create a budget "Italy" in 30 seconds and you're ready to go. Each time you make an expense in Italy, you add it to the app in a few seconds and you instantly know you're remaining budget. I'm bored of super complex apps. Yes, they do a lot of things, but it often takes a while to get used to the app and understand all its features. That's why I created this app. I want people to be able to track their expenses in seconds, as…

We built a local-first, private, multi-currency, double-entry based personal finance app. It will help you track, visualize, and plan your financial journey. Use the `Try demo` button, to try it without an account. Small screens (mobiles) are not supported yet. By local-first we mean, your data is on your system (we use sqlite over opfs, in browser). For synching across devices, the data is encrypted with your key before it leaves your device. You can backup the data locally (if you are using chrome) and/or to your dropbox. It's designed so that we (the people building it) can't access…

Finzen▲3Over the years, I've tried pretty much every personal finance tool out there. Loved some, hated others, but in the end, I always came back to using my trusty google sheet. I needed something that combined YNAB's envelope budgeting with what a multi-asset portfolio tracker does. For me, your budget and your investments are linked. Obviously, never invest more than you can afford to lose - but how are you supposed to know how much that is for you without understanding your spending habits? So I built Finzen Finzen = budgeting + portfolio tracking + rich visual reports and stats Currently in…

Budgero▲13I built Budgero because I was frustrated with YNAB being expensive, region-limited, and not privacy-focused. Budgero is a budgeting app that’s privacy-first, supports multiple currencies, works offline, and gives you full control of your data. You can try it here: https://demo.budgero.app/ (data not saved). For anyone interested in getting into beta sign up at: https://my.budgero.app (I will be sending invites soon) Feedback welcome!

Hello HN! I have built NomadExpenses because I tried like 15 or so iOS Apps and none of them had features I needed. If you just live in one place and need only one currency and budget for one the choices are vast. I needed multi-currency support (not just multiple wallets, but auto currency conversion), shared expense logging with my girlfriend and the ability to see everything in the currency I understand best. There is essentially only travel apps for short-term trips, that do something like this, but not for nomads, since you have to create a "trip" with dates. I need my monthly target…

Hi everyone, I’ve been on Hacker News for a good number of years, but this is my first “Show HN”. I changed jobs recently. Tax is weird in Europe (and maybe other places as well?) in that different amounts go out at different times and repeat at various intervals. I needed to make sure I had enough cashflow to make all upcoming payments, I didn't want any surprises. So I created a little tool for my own purposes, then had fun putting a small HTML frontend on it as I thought it might be useful for someone else. I'm a backend developer in my day job, as you can probably tell from the design :)…
