24 alternatives to RenderDay
Hey HN! I recently had to render my first longer Blender animation, and I found myself pretty frustrated with the existing render farms out there. Everything I tried was either buggy, overly complicated (I really don’t want to pick from a huge list of hardware options), or just *really* expensive. So, I did what anyone would do.. I built my own solution: https://renderday.com - a GPU-only render farm for Blender that’s super fast and dead simple to use. You just: 1. Upload your `.blend` file 2. Pick your settings 3. Get a price, pay, and render - done No subscriptions, no upfront…

It's been closed source for a long time while I worked on it on and off as a hobby research project, but yesterday the repo was made public for the first time under the MPL 2.0 license. A feature reel showing its capabilities can be found here: https://ktstephano.github.io/rendering/stratusgfx/feature_re... A technical breakdown of a single frame can be found here: https://ktstephano.github.io/rendering/stratusgfx/frame_anal... It's still in a very beta state (bugs and instability expected), but I felt like it was a good time to make it…

I am excited to announce the launch of my e-book on Graphics/WebGPU programming! This project has consumed much of my spare time, during which I developed various tools to facilitate the publishing process, including a code playground and a static site generator that can reference sample codes. However, I'm feeling burnt out and ready to call it finished, even though it may not feel completely done. Avoiding another abandoned side project has been my primary motivation in reaching this point.

TLDR: Click the link to see some cool visualizations, refresh a few times for random examples, and try editing some of the code yourself. This is a small weekend project of mine inspired by shadertoy.com It's a static single-page site hosted on GitHub pages so the website design is pretty barebones. I'm not a web developer so I mainly wanted to create a Cool Thing with my free time and not have to learn tons of front-end to do it. I'd love to hear what people think about it and please post or send me any shaders you make! You can use the link button in the bottom right to share. I hope that…

Render▲318Hey HN, I'm Anurag, founder and CEO of Render, a cloud for application developers. We've just launched Render Workflows, a way to define durable tasks by decorating plain TypeScript or Python functions and running them on Render without operating queues, worker pools, retry logic, and state management. Code example below [1]. The use cases we have in mind include agent loops, ETL/data pipelines, billing flows, and other long-running jobs. The model is simple: mark an existing function as a Task, deploy the repo as a Workflow, then trigger runs from your application code or via our API.…

Hi HN, My name is David Sokol, and I'm the founder of rentaflop (https://rentaflop.com). We're a crowdsourced render farm aimed at making Blender rendering fast and affordable. If you've used Blender, then I'm sure you've experienced the pain of waiting around for your animations to render. You've probably even had to sacrifice the quality of your work to reduce your render times. I've been there too. If you're like me, then you're also disappointed with the alternative solutions: spending thousands of dollars on graphics cards or using prohibitively expensive cloud render farms to…

I’ve been experimenting with Rust lately and wanted a project that would help me explore some of its lower-level and performance-oriented features. Inspired by Sebastian Lague’s videos, I decided to implement my own ray tracer from scratch. The initial goal was just to render a simple 3D scene in the browser at a reasonable frame rate. It evolved into a small renderer that can: • Run locally or on the web using wgpu and WebAssembly • Perform mesh rendering with a Bounding Volume Hierarchy (BVH) for acceleration • Simulate both direct and indirect illumination for photorealistic results • Be…

Hi HN, we are Ed, Zach, and Ronald, creators of Shadeform (https://www.shadeform.ai/), a GPU marketplace to see live availability and prices across the GPU market, as well as to deploy and reserve on-demand instances. We have aggregated 8+ GPU providers into a single platform and API, so you can easily provision instances like A100s and H100s where they are available. From our experience working at AWS and Azure, we believe that cloud could evolve from all-encompassing hyperscalers (AWS, Azure, GCP) to specialized clouds for high-performance use cases. After the launch of…

Since this is a major new release (three and a half years in development), I think this should be ok for Show HN. This release has lots of new material, fixes, and updates across the three books in this series. All three books are online and free, with accompanying code available from GitHub. Enjoy!

We added a new feature to our open-source HTML5 game engine today that allows you to create Sprite GPU Layers. These pack together simple JS object definitions onto the GPU and renders them using a custom vertex shader. This skips all CPU computation and GPU upload operations, resulting in vastly increased performance. For objects that don't need to be updated by input, physics, or other interactive behaviors, we found it to be a great solution. In testing, we've easily managed to blast millions of sprites around on moderate desktop-grade GPUs. Indeed, we hit the fill rate limitation of the…

process demo - https://i.redd.it/fbhlwsq1gcmg1.gif render demo - https://i.redd.it/smddwtryhcmg1.gif I love making creative software. I spent a few years making pixel art software but recently have gotten into 3d animation and 2d animation and really wanted a way to realize crazy ideas. Blockbench didn't feel quite right, spline is super well made but felt catered too much to just idle website animations, and I really didn't want to fall down a master class in Blender just to make some silly stuff. While I'm definitely not discounting Blender's literal…

Hi HN, I think mesh gradients are cool, I use them a lot, probably too much. So I made a simple tool that puts one behind my screenshots. No watermark, no sign-up, I just paste my screenshot, select my current favorite color palette, I add an unhealthy amount of grain texture, and hit "copy". Lots of aspect ratios available. I also made a Canvas tool to make more advanced designs with optionally transparent background. Do check it out and tell me what you think

Hi there, looking for feedback on my new project "Featherless.AI" The idea is to allow users to run all the models on hugging face instantly. Via the OpenAI API compatible endpoint. Why? Because its a real chore to download models and spin up GPUs, especially if you want to test multiple models. Not to mention GPUs cost multiple dollars an hour to rent. And if we want more people to use open source AI, we got to make it easier for them to try and play with all of them. So what if instead of spinning up dedicated GPUs per model (which is what every provider is doing) We can startup a LLM…

I was playing with this for a few weeks over the holiday break. This is one of the GS3D sample scenes running on PCVR at about 65 FPS. I'm sorting on the CPU at the moment, so there are some hitches, but it works! I may publish this as a Unity asset. (I'd love to get it working on Vision Pro, but we'll see.)

Hey everyone, my friend and I created a GitHub Wrapped video for developers to showcase their activity on the platform in a more fun way. The implementation is open-source (https://github.com/rendleyhq/github-wrapped-2024) if you're interested in how it was built. To get a bit geeky, we used masks, keyframe animations, luma key shaders to remove the background from the confetti video, and some other techniques. Also, everything is rendered directly in the browser!! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the rendering performance, especially if you're running this on your…

PixelDojo▲17Hello HN! I’m excited to share PixelDojo.ai, an all-in-one generative AI studio for creators. I built PixelDojo to be a one-stop platform where you can generate images, create short videos, and even train custom AI models (LoRA fine-tunes) from your own images. The idea came about because the AI creative process felt fragmented. 10 months ago I set off on a journey to create the ultimate AI playground. A place where cutting-edge image-generation tools are easily accessible. My goal was to bring all the latest AI creativity tools under one roof so that anyone, even a “noob” with no prior…

GPT Image▲14Hey HN, I built a web tool that wraps the latest AI image generation models with a conversational interface. The main idea is you can iterate on images through natural dialogue instead of rewriting prompts from scratch each time. Key features I focused on: - Multi-turn editing (the AI remembers previous context) - Character/style consistency across multiple images - Multi-image fusion Not affiliated with OpenAI – the name is just a playful nod. Would love feedback from this community, especially on the UX and what features would be useful for technical users. Try it:…

The one-liner: You give it a script, it generates a portrait video in 10 minutes. No stock footage, no templates—it writes code that renders as video. ## Why I built this We were building game dev courses at Outscal and needed to produce a lot of video content fast. Traditional video production was slow. AI video generators looked weird. So we tried a different approach: what if video was just code? Turns out it works. We can replicate specific art styles, and the output is consistent and editable. ## What it can do - Generate 30-60 second shorts from a script - Match specific visual styles…
