24 alternatives to I'm writing an alternative to Lutris

It's free and open source. The aim is to have more transparent access to wine prefixes and the surrounding tooling (winetricks, proton configuration, etc...) per game in comparison to Lutris. Same features like statistics (time played, times launched, times crashed, and so on) per game is available in the app.

This is a free, open-source game launcher that provides transparent access to Wine prefixes and related tools like Winetricks and Proton configuration on a per-game basis. It tracks game statistics including playtime… Below are 24 products that do a similar job, ranked by how close each is in meaning and then by launch-day votes.

Hello all, About a month or so ago, you were all so nice as to put Lazy Tetris on your front page, and I've never felt so popular. More than 30,000 people have played the game all over the world. I'm truly happy if anyone is enjoying this fun project. So yes, I'm re-posting this, sorry if it's too soon, but I wanted to thank you for your amazing feedback in the comments: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44103839 I've added the following features since we last spoke: - iOS app (why? Of course Monetization, but Haptics are also cool) - translations into a few languages -…

I've been working on an MMORPG that is now in alpha as a solo developer. Here are the major open source technologies that I use: Blender - 3D modeling software for creating the overall environment and every game object. I've gotten a lot of CC and Public Domain assets from https://poly.pizza GLTF - I export assets from blender to the GLTF asset format JSON - I write a JSON config for every game object that describes things like its name, its interactions, its collisions, etc. Node.js exporter - I iterate over the environment and every asset to create a scene hierarchy. I use…

I'm making a platform for simple open source games you can play anywhere. Games are all just JavaScript classes and you can read the source of every game on the platform. I started working on initial "games" (mostly rendering tests) in 2018 and eventually built all of the platform stuff around it to make it easy to share games. There's also an in-browser editor available for you to make and publish games all from the browser. Would love some feedback on the games and studio features as well as the platform overall. All of the code is available at https://github.com/homegamesio

Hey HN, this is a small project myself and closer friends have been building on our free time (https://github.com/Dr-Nekoma/lyceum), it finally reached 0.1.0, we are open to feedback! The original idea was to experiment with Zig + Raylib, eventually we wrote a small server in Erlang as well. We started by first interacting with Erlang via its C bindings, but this eventually led to some of us to prototyping our own tooling to better integrate Zig types with Erlang, we called such tool "zerl" as its avaliable here…

Hi HN, I built TetrisBench, a benchmark that tests LLMs on real-time code generation and reasoning through Tetris. Live: https://tetrisbench.com/ *How it works:* Each model starts with an initial optimization function for evaluating Tetris moves. As the game progresses, the model sees the current board state and updates its algorithm—adapting its strategy based on how the game is evolving. The model continuously refines its optimizer: - Board getting too high? Prioritize clearing lines. - Hole forming? Adjust penalties. - Safe stack? Build for a Tetris. The model generates…

Hey folks — here’s a small experiment I hacked together over the weekend: https://cleoselene.com/ In short, it’s a way to build multiplayer games with no client-side game logic. Everything is rendered on the server, and the game itself is written as simple Lua scripts. I built this to explore a few gamedev ideas I’ve been thinking about while working on Abstra: - Writing multiplayer games as if they were single-player (no client/server complexity) - Streaming game primitives instead of pixels, which should be much lighter - Server-side rendering makes cheating basically…

Hello HN, I'm sharing a little open-source utility I wrote recently. I'm a huge fan of Brendan Gregg's "BPF Performance Tools" book. However, every time I SSH into a fresh server, most of the diagnostic tools aren't installed there and installing them can be really annoying. I decided to use Nix package manager and LLMs to make this process straightforward. My utility first downloads a "toolbox" of Linux utilities (built with Nix), runs Brendan Gregg's famous "60-second Linux analysis" playbook and then summarizes the results with an LLM. So "60-second Linux analysis" now becomes a single…

Hey HN, I’m the solo developer of Search to Play, a social bookmarking platform for gamers — kind of like Letterboxd or Goodreads, but for video games. You can log your games, track your backlog, write reviews, and follow others. I’m building this as an alternative to spreadsheet tracking or platform-locked tools (Steam, PSN, etc). Would love your feedback! Happy to answer any questions here.

I love making small 2D pixel art games, especially using tools that have some constraints. Things like Pico-8 and the Playdate SDK are simple, fun, and allow for focusing on the game idea rather than the technical minutia. Years ago I prototyped an idea for this little game engine, Usagi, but used Rhai instead of Lua. The idea for this little game engine never went away, so I decided to finally dig in and build it. Today I released v1.0.0 of Usagi Engine after making a bunch of small games, getting feedback from developers, and stabilizing the API. It's simple, has a great developer…

So, me (dev) and my friend (designer) have been building a website/mobile app to help users manage their game library (think MyAnimeList, but games) for a little over a year. We launched with a very basic set of features, and have been slowing expanding since then. All the code is open source, and most of the things we implemented were direct feedback from users (e.g. being able to import games from Steam/PSN, and the Posts feature). We don't show ads or have any kind of subscription. This is just a hobby project. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, as honestly the hardest…

Hey all I've been working on a website called GamingHerd that has spawned from dealing with so many cheaters in Valve's Counter-Strike 2. Watch this video if you're interested into the different scales of cheats that can be used, pretty much undetectable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox1mBxrVulk&ab_channel=HaiX Currently, Valve does not seem to have a viable solution for dealing with cheaters nor are they transparent about their intentions (I'm sure for good reason). I can only imagine the complexities they have to deal with, and at the same time there is a potential…

Hi HN, I love building small games (as Pong, Wordle, Tetris, etc.), but they're never quite unique enough to justify their own site. So I built boring.game - a daily "boring" game where the social mechanics (predicting your score, challenging other users) is more interesting than the game itself. I started a HN team if you want to compare your results: https://boring.game/invite/SRhyUStjin You can also play all daily games without signing up, if that is what you prefer. Built with SvelteKit (first time using Svelte - loved it!). Would love feedback on both the concept and…

I recently open-sourced Clash of Apps, a tool I built to compare Google Play apps side-by-side — features, ASO, reviews, ratings, update frequency, etc. It started as a way for me to research competitors more efficiently and evolved into something others might find useful too.
